To let him sleep so much?

My almost 21 month old has been used to full time nursery. He’d be up by 7.30am, have an hours nap at nursery and be flat out asleep by 6.30pm

Since lock down he sleeps a lot. He goes to bed at about 7.30 and spends half an hour playing in his cot, so he’s usually asleep by 8. He then sleeps until about 10am. It’s 11am now and he’s still snoring! We will then do games, nursery rhymes, sing, dance, play outside and then he’ll have a 2 hour nap.

Is this OK? He’s perfectly fine in himself, happy, eating, fit and well, just sleeping loads (as am I).

Thanks for any advice and hope you are all safe

Is he dehydrated?

NaviSprite · 02/04/2020 11:22

That’s similar to my twins sleeping pattern, they sleep from 8/8.30pm until 9.30/10am the following morning (on good nights anyway!) they aren’t dehydrated, unwell etc.

The only issue I can see with it OP is trying to get him back into routine when nursery reopens Smile

Are you awake before him every morning? I don’t know about your DS but if mine wake earlier than me (unexpected but has happened on rare occasions) they tend to play in their cots quietly for a good 30-40minutes before announcing to the house they’re awake. Thankfully I’m usually the first up otherwise I’d wonder every day how long they’d been without breakfast or a drink 😂

If he makes it clear straight away that he’s awake and there’s no crossover where he’s awake and you’re not, I see no harm in letting him sleep a bit more. But obviously keep an eye out for if he starts displaying illness alongside it (FWIW nun DS has hay fever and at this time of year he prefers to sleep a bit more).

My DS not “nun” what an odd autocorrect Confused

Thinking about it I think he does wake and play in the morning about 7ish (when he would have normally woken up) we do often get up at this time but sometimes he’s sleeps late, like today.

He’s drinking plenty, abs full of beans and musc

Many people get in to a more relaxed mode (lazy mode) when just indoors - we haveGrin
As long as your son is happy, eating and playing like normal when awake then I would think it’s just a different routine due to being indoors a lot at the moment. Just keep a eye on him to make sure he continues to eat/drink and play as normal. Also make sure you have some time outside for fresh air either in the garden if you have one or a little walk. Smile
