Garden centres are more essential than off-licences during lockdown

Supermarkets already sell alcohol so why on earth are off licences listed as ‘essential’ during lockdown?

Plants and flowers, whether growing in a garden or on a windowsill or balcony have long been recognised as beneficial to mental health. Unlike off-licences, Garden centres could easily be adapted to be fully outdoor spaces.

My heart goes out to the growers who are having to throw out all their stock, who unlike many businesses who will still have their stock to sell when this is all over.

I think garden centres/nurseries are more essential during lockdown than off licences.

Where I live garden centres are included in essential businesses in our shut down. There would be civil uprising if they weren't!

I'm not disagreeing that it can be done. I've got older relatives who did grow enough veg for their families on allotments etc. It is a significant time commitment and some expertise is definitely needed if you're going to do it more cheaply than a supermarket and avoid having a glut of a few types of veg. If you find it fun, go for it!

Our local B&Q are open for click and collect. But they don't have summer bedding plants in yet.

Hehehe just seen Katie Hopkins is in trouble for banging on about garden centres and how they should be open. I thought of this thread immediately Grin

Doesn't surprise me that scum is using the crisis for attention. She needs it like a mushroom needs shit.
