Going back to school

When (if!) schools go back how do you think it will be structured? Do you think they will reassess the children somehow and consolidate some year groups? So say you've kept up to date whilst off then you will go into the next year but you will be in with the kids from previously the year above who haven't kept up? Or repeat the whole year? Or everyone straight on to go the next year?

I think they'll stay in their year groups and the teachers and TAs will be expected to fill the gaps with differentiated work and interventions, with no extra support or funding to make that possible

That is almost certainly what will happen!

Education is a marathon not a sprint. Kids have until GCSEs to catch up, it doesn't all have to be achieved in one academic year.

This. I will be amazed if this doesn't happen.

I believe in my area they are delaying sending out year r offers. It seems that they are going to delay entry. No-one on the front line of teaching wants kids to come straight in without transition so I expect everyone will work to make that happen. It is a little complicated with the mix of academies and LA schools but I know that everyone would want a transition to happen. If we end up not going back until September then it's likely that they'll do transitions then and then all start. Children won't be overly delayed going to the next year though as it would be impossible to organise that as a country and it's easier to continue as normal. There's always a range of abilities in each year group anyway. Teachers/schools are well equipped to cope with this.
I would hope that they make adjustments for exams as it will make a big difference - but they are unlikely to announce that any time soon.
