Hello,
I am a supply teacher. I graduated last year and i probably will be on supply for at least another year.
I want to do an online distance masters to enhance myself but I am stuck between:
Msc Speech Difficulties
MA TEFL (teaching english as a foreign language)

I did an Early Years PGCE so my main age group i work with are 3-7 year olds.
I'm interested in Speech Difficulties or Language impairments as this is a vital ahe to try and conduct early interventions for children with speech impairments, so I believe this could enhance me.
But I'm just looking for opinions as I was so excited about applying for the course but then people are telling me to really think about it,
But whilst i'm on supply, I see a great opportunity to learn!
I have a first in my undergraduate degree and a Pass with Disctinction from my PGCE so I am motivated to work

Why do you want to do MA TEFL and have you an experience in ELT? I ask because I have been teaching EFL for the last 20 years and just about finished the MA.
If you don't have any experience then to be honest, I think it'll be pretty pointless. If you wanted to teach EAL in schools then you could do a CELTA/ Trinity TESOL then top up with a Young learner cert. There might also be specialised YL courses ypu can do to top up your exisiting qualifications. I know there are for Further Ed courses.
With both courses practical experience will be the key...would you be able to get this? If not, then an MA in Applied Linguistics could be a good option, or possibly something in Educational Psychology.

If youre interested in speech difficulties why wouldnt you do the related msc?

I feel like TEFL wouldn't add much value to your education. If your passion is speech therapy then follow that.

I do agree that linguistics may also be a good route for you too.
