To wonder about the mismatch between comments and voting

I see lots of threads where an OP is being told by 99% of respondents that they Abu, but the voting shows something like 50-50 for and against their view.

Why arepeople more likely to post if they disagree with an OP than if they agree?

OP posts:

Many people vote but don't comment, because they know if they give their honest opinion, that they will get jumped on by the forum prefects, waving their pearls about in their face, and demanding to know why they think how they do.

The voting system is brilliant, because you get a clearer picture of the opinions on here than the comments tell.

Also...

People who have a 'right of centre' view don't speak on here much, because they know they'll be slaughtered on here, because the posters who DO comment/post a lot are very left-wing. I have seen a poster jumped on by 10 different posters, and annihilated on here, for daring to have an opinion that is not left-wing.

Also I've not yet worked out how to vote in the app in fact can't see if voting is on or not in the app

Hingeandbracket · 01/04/2020 13:58

As above.
Various opinions/groups are banned on here.

Leavers for example.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/04/2020 13:59

It's often not worth wading into a bunfight with the vocal minority, when general sense and moderation are dominating the poll.

AlpineSnow · 01/04/2020 14:01

People can't be bothered being jumped on by aggressive posters dominating a thread.

Many people vote but don't comment

But I bet many people comment but don't vote for various reasons. I have voting turned off.

SmallChickBilly · 01/04/2020 14:08

Why arepeople more likely to post if they disagree with an OP than if they agree?

Because if you agree, then the OP voices your opinion, but if you don't then you want to explain why not.

RishiSunakFanClub · 01/04/2020 14:33

Because the stupid voting allows people to just vote without commenting.

lubeybooby · 01/04/2020 14:35

I often cba to argue so just vote and feck off

ThePerfectPintOfIceColdBeer · 01/04/2020 14:40

I also can't seem to vote in the app. But if I could I would comment a lot less as it seems I often have opinions which differ from the mumsnet majority.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 01/04/2020 14:46

For instance earlier a poster posed a question and most comments were she was bu for not social isolating. Which was not her question. Turns out the first commenters had mis read her post and she was actually social isolating. But they continued to rip her apart. Her actual question wasn't answered. I did actually comment but the op had by this point legged it.
