Never had one before. I'm scared of the procedure and I'm scared that they'll find what they're looking for :(

Handhold anyone?

Hope you're ok op Flowers
I've had quite a few (had lletz twice) and I always feel shaky afterwards but it doesn't hurt

2catsblack · 31/03/2020 14:51

I have had a few. The pre medication is the worst bit for me. Good luck

Patch23042 · 31/03/2020 14:53

Hi OP. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be tbh. Slightly longer than a smear. No after effects.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 31/03/2020 14:54

No sedation for me either but it was fine

spiderlight · 31/03/2020 14:55

I've had...six, I think? Also two LLETZ. Much like a slightly longer smear with a bit more furtling around, but not painful. As the lovely colposcopy nurse said to me the first time I walked into the unit, you're in the system now and whatever they find, they'll sort it. I'm now on year 10 of clear smears after mine - I was in the 1% who had to have two loop excisions because they didn't quite get a wide enough margin the first time but been fine ever since.

LittleRa · 31/03/2020 14:55

Are some people mixing up Colposcopy with Colonoscopy? Those talking about sedation, wind on the ward afterwards and pre-medication? The OP is having a Colposcopy- like a cervical smear. Not a Colonoscopy.

FleecyMoo · 31/03/2020 14:58

Consider your hand firmly held by me xx

Macca84 · 31/03/2020 14:58

I've had one along with LLETZ and cone biopsy. It wasn't my idea of fun, but it really wasn't so bad. Hope you're ok OP Flowers

SingforAbsolution · 31/03/2020 14:59

I had one and a LLETZ years ago. The local for the LLETZ was most definitely eye watering and I'm sure the nurse got the sensation back in her hand eventually. Worth it though as every smear since then has been clear.

Just take it easy for the rest of the day.

HarrietOh · 31/03/2020 14:59

Definitely people getting the two confused! Grin

diddl · 31/03/2020 15:01

Hope all going OK.

Had one many years ago.

Laser treatment at the same time.

No where near as bad as I thought.

Worst part-back ache afterwards from the table & some revolting discharge!

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 31/03/2020 15:03

I've had one before for the removal of a cervical polyp and was scared stiff as the literature mentioned I might have a local anaesthetic. I didn't have one and I literally wasn't even aware of the polyp being removed. No pain, no discomfort, nothing. I'm normally one who is in pain having a smear test but I think the legs in stirrups really helps.

I know it's easy to say but try not to worry about the results. It won't change them and they could be fine. Mine were. I just had to have smears every 6 months for 2 years as a precaution.

anotherlittlechicken · 31/03/2020 15:05

@SeaGale All the best love. Flowers

I guess you are in there now?

Hope it all comes out well/good! Smile

Keep us posted!

Twospaniels · 31/03/2020 15:05

Hand hold here.
My daughter had one just before Xmas and she said it was no worse than a smear test. She got results 6 wks later and just has to go for another smear in 12 mths.
Hope all going ok for you 💐

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 31/03/2020 15:09

People definitely getting colposcopy and colonoscopy confused.
I've had both. Colposcopy was a bit longer than a smear but not bad. Colonoscopy, I did opt for the mild sedative that meant I couldnt feel anything but was still awake and watching the screen.
I'd take a colposcopy again any day over a colonoscopy!

Lovemusic33 · 31/03/2020 15:18

Hope everything goes ok, my mum had it done once a year and manages without sedation. Fingers crossed it’s all over by the time you read this x

Nonnymum · 31/03/2020 15:19

No one is sedated for a colposcopy,
I was offered sedation. I said no but people can be if they want it. I had a couple of polyps removed that were benign. I wasn't aware they had removed them until they told me.
OP it will be over before you know it and worth it.

Nonnymum · 31/03/2020 15:21

People definitely getting colposcopy and colonoscopy confused.
Sorry I was getting them confused too. I had a colonoscopy which is what I thought OP meant.
Best wishes OP

Redredwine99 · 31/03/2020 15:34

Hope it went ok OP I had a colposcopy and lletz 3 years ago for CIN3 with a follow up smear 6 months after and have recently had my next scheduled smear which came back clear. So grateful for the process even though it’s a bit nerve racking it’s better than the alternative

IamChipmunk · 31/03/2020 15:45

Ive had several, as others have said I didnt find them much worse than a smear, just a bit longer. Nurses always very nice.

I had to keep going back to have abnormal cells monitored but nothing came of it and im back on 3 yearly smears.
I think I just have a dodgy looking cervix!!

Thinkingabout1t · 31/03/2020 16:12

Hoping it all goes well and the results are good, so you have nothing further to worry about.

Visualising you soon relaxing at home with a cuppa.
Brew

MintyMabel · 31/03/2020 16:14

You’ll be sedated and won’t know anything about it.

I’ve had a few of these appointments, including two LLETZ procedures and never had sedation.

Hope it all went ok OP. The wait is the worst bit, I found, but hopefully the results will be clear. Statistically the odds are on your side that they will be.

SeaGale · 31/03/2020 17:45

All done and all fine. They didn't need to take any biopsies or anything. She just said to have a follow up smear next year unless I have any worrying symptoms before then.

Thanks for the hand holding!
