Asda charging for delivery.

Hear me out.

I pay for a delivery pass monthly. It's £5 and I have a regular delivery slot.

I'm lucky to have kept this and with a disabled child and 2 shielding parents it's going to be a godsend.

So I placed my order.

Just had an email.

2 items out of stock.
No substitutes offered.
Some items on a multi buy saving.

So now I'm under the minimum basket charge and they've charged me £3 for delivery.
I get usually this is the rules and understand why.

But AIBU to think when people can't even get their usual weekly grocery shopping trolley they shouldn't then charge for delivery because it goes under a certain amount - for a period of say 3 months during this lockdown.

I do think the order itself should remain at minimum basket amount. But customers shouldn't have to pay extra because they can't deliver what was ordered or substitute it.

Defo add wine or gin 😁

Surely the point of getting a delivery is that you don't have to go out for extras, thereby, £40 is a really low value. Just add some extras that you would eat anyway, or a bigger pack of tea or whatever, or some bread and put it is the freezer, etc etc

Give them a ring and it will be refunded. I had a slot 2 weeks ago and ordered £90 worth of stuff. A lot of substitution e.g smart price beans instead of Heinz brought down the total and 18 items were unavailable. Total spend came in at £34 they then charged me £6 delivery and £3 pick and pack.
I called them and explained. They refunded the additional £9 straight away.

I have a £5 pass and am in shielding yet I can't even get a slot, no matter how early I get up, how late I stay up or how often in the day I look.
Asda are still taking the cost of the pass and I can't get in touch with them to explain that I'm finding it impossible to use my pass either for delivery or for Click and Collect and hoping someone will go for me

Or add some essential household items or toiletries to make up the difference. I don’t think an extra box of toothpaste would be a waste of money, you’ll definitely need it at some point and if money is tight, you can omit the toothpaste from your next order/food shop and spend it on something else.

Usually I would highlight it to them (I wouldn't be mad, I'd just politely point it out) and they'd refund the delivery charge. However at this moment in time, unless it's going to leave you severely out of pocket, I'd leave it.

People seem to ge missing the OPs point. Her order WAS over the £40 threshold it went under it because Asda were out of stock of things & couldn't supply them. Theres no option to add anything once the order is being processed so all the suggestions of just adding extra items wont work. By the time the OP got the email telling her the order was under £40 because of lack of stock it was already made up and in the van

I haven't exactly ranted brew HmmConfused I've asked IABU. Any other week I'd have complained but this isn't usual times.

I can't judge from my own experience without knowing what others experiences are and how it's currently working. As Ive said. It seems like a problem across all supermarkets and across the country. This weeks once off isn't the time to worry.

I've had excellent advice from some Mn about avoiding it and about maybe being able to reduce my slot to every fortnight.

I have a question for everyone. have you noticed a £2.50 charge on your asda delivery for packing as well as the deliver charge cost? resulting in a whopping £7.50 at times depending on the time and location you have paid...also when these people deliver to your house are they not meant to deliver to your door?

I had someone make me come down and help him pick up the items. he buzzed me first before even unloading, and waited for me to come down and was expecting me to take them all up. there was only 4 crates which two of them was extreemly light plus he the trolley to help him left the up the stairs.

I helped him anyway...he must have been tiered but i do think it was a little cheeky considering your paying so much for the slot.
