AIBU to ask people to show appreciation to Refuse Collectors too?

I was putting out our Household rubbish and recycling last night and thought thank goodness they are still working and we don't have rubbish building up in our streets. They must have staff off self-isolating too and worry the same as we do but have to work in fairly close proximity to each other.

I decided to sellotape a note of thanks on each bin and asked them to keep safe because, although they aren't saving lives, their roles are so important. We only notice when there are strikes.

My DH saw them arrive and the operative showed the note to everyone on the vehicle including the driver and they all gave the thumbs up sign towards our house, clearly chuffed.

I think a lot of people feel unappreciated and maybe we could all show our gratitude more often.

Our council has stopped collecting recycling and garden waste which is 90% of our waste so it'll all be going in the black bin for landfill.

I am not grateful as we have new contractors doing it and they are pretty useless. Last week they only emptied waste bins and left recycling (and garden waste, which they have not collected at all since their contract started). This week they managed to empty recycling (in the dark at 8.30 pm last night) and the waste bins - all except mine, which they just left (for another week AARGH!) - don't know why they thought I would want to drag it 30 yards to the pavement if it was empty.
