Will my 12 week scan go ahead?

Got 12 week scan this week. Not heard anything to say it won’t be happening. Have tried ringing but can’t get through. Plan to head there (alone!) for my appointment, but wondering if anyone knew for sure whether scans were going ahead as normal? Thanks

They are advising to still attend but most places are saying without partner, I had my 12 week one last Tuesday, the main changes seem to be to face to face midwife appointments

Hope it all goes well for you 💜

WhenYouveAFirstInEnglish · 30/03/2020 12:31

It will although if you are symptomatic/self isolating etc it will be pushed back two weeks probably x

Flowersforpowers · 30/03/2020 12:32

Ours are, and they're allowing one partner (no children) to accompany you. Maybe try ringing the midwife number to ask?

RoseGoldEagle · 30/03/2020 12:37

Thank you 😊

lastonetime - what changes are they making to the face to face midwife appointments, are they doing these by phone instead? Thanks!

I had midwife appointment by phone last week but I am going to have to attend my next two in person. They will see you if you're worried about anything though (at least that's what my midwife said).

@RoseGoldEagle I am just back from a consultant appointment at my hospital. scans still going ahead there as well as appointments and they are being really careful and they are doing everything to reassure you and baby are safe x

Treaclepie19 · 30/03/2020 13:44

Yeah definitely. Mine is on wednesday.
Hope all goes well Flowers

lastonetime · 30/03/2020 13:52

@RoseGoldEagle they advised at the hospital that the guidelines had changed that day and that the 16 week would be over the phone, and then they would check bp and urine at the 20 weeks scan.

I've still made my 16 week appointment as usual and the booking line team seemed to think it will still be face to face, that was the following day so maybe they hadn't been told.

Time will tell!

Winterwoollies · 30/03/2020 14:12

How they’re doing it is done on a trust by trust basis. My trust is saying no partners at all. Hospital scans are being done as normal but staff may well be skeleton and will be in PPE, they need to protect themselves.

Midwife appointments are still going ahead but we have to wait in the car until called.

And finally, if you show any symptoms, do not go and risk wiping out an entire department.

They’re their best but it may not be the cosy experience you expect.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the info everyone x

Does anyone know how essential the 12 week scan is? Mine is in a few weeks (at the predicted peak) so I'd rather delay it by a few weeks or not have it at all. It sounds like the 20 week scan is pretty important but not so sure about the 12 week scan. This is my second pregnancy - first one was totally fine so I'm not too worried.

Miltonj · 30/03/2020 15:31

I'd say 12 week scan is pretty important... firstly for you're own peace of mind but really for the screening tests .... they can't do them at the 20 week scan.

Darbs76 · 30/03/2020 15:33

12wk scan really important. Though with my first there was only a 20wk scan

Whoareyoudududu · 30/03/2020 15:34

The 12 week scan is vital. I’ve had missed miscarriages only picked up during that scan, it really is a necessary appointment so they can’t and won’t cancel it. I think most trusts are now insisting women attend alone, I have a midwife appointment tomorrow and have been asked to go alone.

Treaclepie19 · 30/03/2020 15:35

@TheLette it's important. They can tell you if baby is okay, in the case of a missed miscarriage its important for you to know.
At my 12 week scan we had bad news with the nuchal measurement so again, important.

12 week scan is very important, I'm sure they wont be cancelled.
It is important that they can see that a baby is growing, and that it is in the right place, that you havent had a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy. They also use it to date your pregnancy which is required for some paperwork e.g. matB1 form
The nuchal fold test has to be done within a certain window (to test for Downs and other chromosomal disorders).

Frazzlerock · 30/03/2020 15:42

Yes I was told by my recurrent MC team that I won't get any 'reassurance' scans (not sure why they call them that!) this time around (number 5 fingers crossed) and I'll have to wait for my 12 weeks scan. So yes they are going ahead.

I hope yours goes well OP. I've got 7 weeks of worry to wait for mine if I get that far of course.

Woman’s Hour had a very informative section on this question during the programme this morning, FYI - it will be on catch up on the Sounds App

MaisieMolly · 30/03/2020 15:54

I my hospital scans are going ahead (had my 20 week scan today) and you are allowed one person in with you (but no children )

TheLette · 30/03/2020 16:03

Ah thank you. I will go then. I was just thinking if it's not essential I will stay out of hospital, and leave the scanning services for ladies who have concerns or known problems.
