What does it mean ? Why is used for everything ?

OP posts:
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 10:35

My best friend is from Japan. She had not a bloody clue what "wee" meant when she met me. I do not consider this a grave insult to the Scottish people.

Piggywaspushed · 30/03/2020 10:36

lauris or someone who is a bit above themselves:

wee fella
wee man
wee gobshite
wee cxxt

I grew up in Glasgow obviously... Grin

Piggywaspushed · 30/03/2020 10:37

Sorry - laurie

Flyinggeese · 30/03/2020 10:37

If people are so genuinely offended/annoyed that the OP didn't Google just move on - no need to pile on with the meanness.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned wee nyaff yet.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 10:42

For extra fun we could try to explain "that'll be right, then".

Confuddledtown · 30/03/2020 10:42

It's just a wee bit of craic, so it is.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 30/03/2020 10:43

Also this, by the late great Stephen Mulrine.

THE COMING OF THE WEE MALKIES
(Stephen Mulrine)

Haw missis, whit'll ye dae when the wee Malkies come,
If they dreep doon affy the wash-hoose dyke,
An pit the hems oan the sterrheid light,
An play wee heidies oan the clean close wa,
Missis, whit'll ye dae?

Whit'll ye dae when the wee Malkies come,
If they chap yir door an choke yir drains,
An caw the feet fae yir sapsy weans,
An tummle thur wulkies through yir sheets,
An tip thur ashes oot in the street,
Missis, whit'll ye dae?

Whit'll ye dae when the wee Malkies come,
If they chuck thur screwtaps doon the pan,
An stick the heid oan the sanitry man,
When ye hear thum shauchlin doon yir loaby,
Chanting, "Wee Malkies! The gemme's a bogey!"
Haw, missis, whit'll ye dae?

ginghamstarfish · 30/03/2020 10:43

if only there was some kind of interconnected web thing where you could look things up .... Hmm

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/03/2020 10:43

"Tatties: Many Americans have Scottish roots"

Technically, they are tubers.

dementedpixie · 30/03/2020 10:44

What, you've never called your child a wee shite bag?!

@ThumbWitchesAbroad I would take 'wee scone' to be a term of endearment rather than a bad thing.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 10:46

People generally don't try to insult someone by comparing them to nice things.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 30/03/2020 10:48

@theprodigal or Kevin Bridges favourite “did ye, aye”

speakout · 30/03/2020 10:48

What is the point of this thread?

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 30/03/2020 10:49

I'm forever telling my wains to wheesht

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 30/03/2020 10:49

Think my username is quite apt for this thread OP don’t you Hmm

Thymelord · 30/03/2020 10:51

There was a poster who used to get very annoyed over the use of "creepy wee brackets" Grin

It was very retro. Like how we used to have to convey emotion when chatting on AOL back in the day [smiles wistfully]

FallonSwift · 30/03/2020 10:51

Thymelord That was Scottishmummy. Who was bloody brilliant and I still miss seeing her post.

Thymelord · 30/03/2020 10:52

I absolutely love saying ya wee bellend. I stole it from your username Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 30/03/2020 10:52

That just makes me feel old. "In days of yore, when AOL walked the internet"

Thymelord · 30/03/2020 10:52

Scottishmummy that's the one! I couldn't remember if it was her or FabbyChic. God i'm going back years now!
