To ask what is the earliest you have toilet trained your dc?

I have a bright little 16m old ds who is very interested in the big toilet, and always wants to do everything himself - eg he has to brush his teeth himself, he puts his shoes on 'himself' (actually we do it but he wants to put his feet in himself and hold the shoe etc).

As we're in for the foreseeable, i thought maybe I could try to start teaching him to use the potty, if it's not miles too early - I think he might get it! I've seen these little potties on amazon, complete with flushing sounds... what was the earliest yours used the potty?

DNW was 2.5

Both my Dd's were toilet trained at 12 months, as they were walking well by then. I went straight to toilet though. Too much faff with potties. Never had any, and certainly never carted one around. We did the old fashioned sit on the loo first thing, after eating or drinking, and before going out. It becomes habit rather than "knowing" but saves a fortune in nappies and pretty quickly they ask to go of their own accord because they instinctively realise what they are doing.

Neither were dry at night for years though, very heavy sleepers, and too lazy to get up.

My big 2 were 2yr6mo and 2yr3mo, but DD2 (3rd child) was very interested from about 15/16 months, would sit on potty, do the odd wee, etc. By about 19 months she was reliably weeing on the potty if nappy free but still in a nappy out and about, at preschool, etc.
As soon as lockdown started we went for it, she was 23 months by then and she cracked it straight away - she’s never had an accident. She’s just turned 2 now, been done for a month, will take herself independently & is nappy free for naps, just overnight to do now. She was def ready earlier (I think she could have been done by 18mo no problem) but I didn’t want to tackle it as well as working full time, wrangling 3 kids, school runs, etc etc.
If I were you OP I’d definitely start keeping the potty around, talking about what it’s for, giving plenty of nappy free time and encouraging wees & poos on the potty - lots of relevant books around (my lot have all loved ‘I want my potty’, one of the Little Princess books). No harm in giving it a go! You’ll soon know if littlun is ready - if it’s stressful, you can always shelve it for another time. Good luck! It’s great having no nappies to change Grin

Just after 2nd birthday. Was very lucky, they were ready to try then and was dry day and night within a week. Had a couple of accidents in the following weeks but other than that, it wasn’t so bad.
