I'm thinking that we will see an end to some things we take for granted like cash, handshakes, etc. as well as a rise in others like permanent glove-wearing, and a major fear of germs leading to some people maintaining social distancing outside. What else could change dramatically?

I don't think it will happen but I would love to see;

People taking more responsibility for themselves. Those on low incomes have no choice but to live hand to mouth. People who have a decent income but choose to spend it all are idiots. The government should also encourage saving over spending.

Greater flexibility for workers. If people can work from home they should be able to do so. The environmental benefits alone should be enough to encourage this. Also travelling abroad for face to face meeting is ridiculous and should never happen.

I hope people continue to support small local businesses and buy locally. You don't need out of season produce from overseas.

There are lots more but I think we will have more obstacles and issues after the initial virus and that the government will be pushing to get the economy up and running which will mean none of this will happen.

I hope people will stop abusing the nhs so much, if it survives. I’m a GP and thankfully the amount of time wasting crap we have usually have to deal with has substantially reduced. Hopefully people will learn that they need to be more self sufficient, and have personal responsibility for their own health and well-being where able and not just expect to be looked after by the state.

I think there will be a lot of vacant nursing home / care home beds.

Zilla1 · 30/03/2020 14:06

Bluetrews, it may depend on the long term effects of CVOID on patients' lungs and what the trajectory for patients who survive being ventilated?

Very true Zilla

Zilla1 · 30/03/2020 18:48

Bluetrews, hope I'm wrong - Have not seen any robust data from the UK but have seen some scary anecdotal reports from other countries ITUs earlier in the process than the UK is.

By the way, are your trews blue in the Scots sense?

Did people stop shaking hands after the Spanish flu? Or constantly wear gloves? No.

So why would now be different?

I wonder if the commitment-phobic men on dating apps (and some women too) who approached it with a candy shop mentality will rush to settle down having experienced life on their lonesome with only 4 walls and Netflix for company.

I'd like to think the Instagram superficial selfie era is over.

I think some companies may embrace the 4 day working week in order to reduce staff costs during the recession.

I hope that billionaires and CEOs who showed their greed and true colours by laying off staff immediately, and paying themselves and share holders are not forgotten and don't benefit from any state handouts.

People will continue to take a daily walk as it will be habit by the end of this.

I hope that China are held to account economically and by global bodies for the initial cover up.

Europe will be extremely poor, so the EU may struggle to remain together following the next elections.

Sorry for so many!
