After-school clubs and coronavirus

Currently have the kids signed up to a number of after-school clubs. Obviously these are not on at the moment due to the virus.
Are we being unreasonable to stop the standing order payments until they start up again? Feel bad for the organisers but if they can't provide a service (through no fault of their own) I'm not sure we should be paying.

Have you had a communication from them what is happening? May be worth emailing and confirming first and seeing what the cancellation policies are?

ours has asked for some payment but tbh I am not paying. They have stopped the club now as too few children last wk. I paid normal last wk although I used less than I normally do. (But thats because i hadn,t given notice.).

Yeah, they've stated the clubs are stopping until the schools start up again. I don't envisage the schools going back until August/September.

We do an in school music club (they come from outside) for drums. They have asked us to learn online but we don’t have a full drum kit at home! So I emailed them and said I will stop direct debit (it’s £31 a month so not cheap) for now and will sign up when they go back to school. We also do an after school football club but that is £27 a half term and I’ve paid until the end of the summer term. I don’t have a problem with this, to me that’s a more nominal amount. I think the price has influenced me, £31 a month for something we won’t use for 5-6 months isn’t something I can justify.

I would stop payment. Chances are your kids interests will change in the next few months and they could have left anyway. Let them start interests fresh when the time comes.

We are continuing the standing order to Cubs, they are a charity.
Swimming was paid for the term and we won't quibble about a refund. The swimming teachers are hourly paid and on minimum wage (I know one of them, their T&C are pretty awful and they are responsible for children's lives).
Dancing we get an invoice monthly and I don't think we'll pay the next one unless we get some online classes.
Football we paid per session and I might chuck them a few quid as DD was very keen and I'd really like her to keep going.

I posted about this the other day.

I'm keeping the instructors payment because he's almost a franchise (but at £80 a month isn't cheap) but not paying the license/insurance fee that goes to the formal association.

My logic is because that's a payment for a 12 month period, I could lose six months of it before they actually get to use it.

That's great. That's exactly what I was after. A few anecdotes about what people were doing. Thanks.
