..the endless, endless nitpicking about teachers. I’ve already seen it start.

Too much work
Not enough work
Work too hard
Work too easy
Wrong tone in an email
Not contactable enough
And
And
And
And

And of parents
Your child must complete and upload all the work set for them.
You are not allowed to question it for a teacher has set it and they are beyond reproach.
It doesn’t matter if you can’t access the work because you have an old laptop/the network is slow/your parents are sick.
If you don’t do the work don’t expect us to repeat it later, you’ve had your chance.
And so on....

Elisheva · 29/03/2020 17:07

And of the kids
I don’t care if your life has been turned upside down
It doesn’t matter if your parents are upset and worried
It’s been a week, why haven’t you adjusted to your new situation?
If you don’t do the work it’s your responsibility, this is your only chance to access this part of the curriculum
And so on...

Well thank you El for that clear demonstration of exactly what I’m talking about 🤣

Yep, everyone can be criticised except the holy sect that is teacherhood, who get everything right just because they are teachers. They work, harder, longer hours than anyone else in the whole world. No one has it harder than them.

stayathomer · 29/03/2020 17:12

What a horrible thread!! We've gotten lovely messages from the teachers, the work and fun stuff they give is realistic, we don't have to upload, it will all be corrected in the future. I'm sorry for everyone that doesn't have this but mn today is the most horrible place ...

Dozer · 29/03/2020 17:13

Agree that the situations are likely to increase friction between parents and teachers.

SmileEachDay · 29/03/2020 17:14

stay

My point is that teachers are doing a great job, in general, but that the current situation will increase teacher bashing on here.

I’m a teacher. 🙃

As a teacher who got told off by my school got not sending reminders and then got a rude email from a parent saying my tone was wrong, it's too early to be pushing and I'm causing mental health issues it's a nightmare. Luckily 99% of parents and students have been understanding, I know that the students are struggling but so am I Hmm

Elisheva · 29/03/2020 17:24

How do you know that? You have no idea what the situation is in all the schools in the country. Maybe some of the ‘teacher bashing’ threads on here are, in fact, accurate?
Two of my kids’ schools have been amazing, one has not. Some of the schools I work in have not managed to get it together, others have gone above and beyond. This is a parents forum, parents must be allowed to ask questions and clarify, but as soon as a teacher is questioned the parent is shot down as ‘teacher bashing’, even when it is blatantly obvious that the teacher has got it a bit wrong.

SmileEachDay · 29/03/2020 17:29

El

It was meant to be a bit lighthearted.

I don’t agree that anyone questioning teachers get shot down as “teacher bashing”, but your perception might be different.

It’s interesting that your response to my post was to list a load of things that you think teachers are doing wrong. I think there’s going to be a lot more of that as teaching moves to being remote. That was my point.

Ok I'll bite. The problem I have with these threads is the "one teacher is shit, therefore all teachers are shit" inductive generalisations. What would be the reaction if we applied the same rubric for parents? I am both, by the way. 😁

FrippEnos · 29/03/2020 19:04

ODFOD.

You are either new to MN or are ignoring the constant threads berating teachers.

stayathomer · 29/03/2020 19:31

Smile I possibly read your post wrong and then read on, I'm just finding mn horrible today:(

thewinkingprawn · 29/03/2020 19:36

Some teachers will be good at this and some not, just like some teachers are good at their jobs generally and some really are not. It is fine to talk about the good and the not good as long as we don’t generalise. But I totally agree that as soon as someone asks a question or says something is not great then it becomes ‘teacher bashing’ and you cannot have a sensible conversation. Tedious.

VladmirsPoutine · 29/03/2020 19:38

There isn't any money they could pay me to be a teacher.

I only hope that some will realise by force of having to home-teach their own kids that teaching is not an easy profession.

Frigginella · 29/03/2020 19:42

My children’s school and the teachers there have all been amazing. I have had my doubts about the school previously (and privately) however I am truly grateful for how they have handled this situation. We have been sent plenty of work and receive daily tasks along with reminders that this is a stressful time for the children so we should only do what we and the children want to do and just spend time playing and reassuring them. I have had emails about extra-curricular activities they do there too so they aren’t missing out on the fun aspects too.

My respect for teachers has only grown from already a high level
