It goes without saying that the NHS are utterly astonishing, all the time, but especially today with everything that they are doing.

But it seems that there are others out there that aren't getting the recognition they deserve at this difficult time. The workers in the food chain - from the farms to the supermarkets and everyone in between like the delivery drivers and the manufacturers (of loo roll etc etc). The postal workers, the vets, the bin men, the charities etc etc. It feels like they are all keeping us going, but they rarely get a mention. I particularly feel for everyone working for or with the supermarkets. Hopefully most of us won't need to use the NHS's services at this dreadful time, but we all need food, and I just think all these thousands and thousands of people should be thanked.

If we have another "clap" as we did last week, some of my clapping will be for them.

I work for the NHS.
I don’t want any of this hypocritical clapping. I just want the NHS to be funded properly.
Everyone else is just doing THEIR JOB. Why do they need to be congratulated?

I completely agree. NHS workers are fab-as are school staff, retail workers, council workers etc. No more clapping ended.

There is a dreadful FB thing going round today asking people to remember school staff working really hard. As a teacher, I just cringe.

People just need to remember to be courteous to each other in these difficult times and the government needs to properly fund all these services. Posting cringy things like that really doesn’t help.

Cleaners!! This is starting to make me angry that cleaners private and domestic are not getting the recognition they deserve.

‘No more clapping needed’, that should say.

I would like to add teachers and TAs. We are putting ourselves and our own families at risk by going into schools where the children are living with frontline NHS workers. We are not given any protective equipment, we are not properly able to practise social distancing, we are on a very low wage (I am a TA on roughly £9 an hour) and we are just expected to get on with it. I will do my bit but I am terrified.

I'm a nurse. The clapping made me very emotional and it's nice to get the recognition but I agree with others that I just want the nhs to have proper funding so we can do our jobs.

I have thanked every person I've come across (not many now I'm in isolation) that is still working. My neighbour works nights in Tesco's, she very kindly brought us some milk home the other day so I had a some flowers sent to her house to thank her for that and for the job she's doing.

I really hope after all this is over the attitudes change towards low wage workers... they're amongst the many that are propping us up right now and its them we're turning to in our hour of need. Yes stacking shelves may not be a very skilled job (although dealing with customers day in day out is it's own challenge) it is certainly an essential one.
