To be more scared lockdown thought police than the actual virus?

So people are judging:if you go out to exercise, if you go out for anything other than bread snd milk. If you are not doing wholesome homeschooling activities.

Im not going out at all atm....not because i fear catching the virus but im scared of being shouted at etc. I also dont want to spread anything nasty.

I know social pressure is good and. necessary but its scary too!!

Don’t blame you op.

The police where I live have behaved appallingly. Apparently they’re too busy to treat people with respect (no matter how nice you are!). And they also don’t understand basic social distancing rules. 😷 disgusting on all counts.

Maybe crime has gone down and they’re all bored? Or they’re feeling left out of an 8pm clap?

The town I live in are definitely fearing the police more than coronavirus. Especially the children - which is just plain wrong

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 28/03/2020 23:15

The police aren't likely to kill your elderly relatives. Just saying....

SquashedSpring · 28/03/2020 23:18

I'm feeling worried too. For example on various platforms I've seen posts about people not obeying the rules which seem to be designed to whip up racial hatred. It feels like we're only a few steps away from the villagers with flaming torches.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/03/2020 23:18

I'm 3 days post isolation but still coughing, absolutely paranoid about getting shouted at. But I also understand people's fears.

I am more scared of the collapse of the economy, i may or may not get Covid-19 but i have been furloughed from my job and my DP is self employed. I reckon we'll be ok short term but if it goes on too long it will be a disaster. For us, and many others.

However i think lockdown is absolutely the right move, just wish it was done sooner

Intelinside57 · 28/03/2020 23:31

People aren't getting shouted at if they go out. They are out and about taking their exercise, keeping their distance... there's nobody yelling at them about it. The police will only get involved with the fuckwits who are socialising as usual, gathering together etc.

malificent7 · 28/03/2020 23:36

Its the judging that gets to me..
OMG...some old people talked to their nieghbours!

Ciwirocks · 28/03/2020 23:38

Where about are you op? I am in the north west and haven’t seen a single police officer in the past week. I haven’t been out loads but have been to work, the shops and a walk round the block so it maybe that you are worrying about nothing?

CendrillonSings · 28/03/2020 23:38

Yes, idiots who endanger the lives of their fellow citizens because they think they’re too special to follow the rules deserve our utter contempt.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/03/2020 23:39

some old people talked to their nieghbours!

Were they observing social distancing?

WorraLiberty · 28/03/2020 23:40

You can't live your life like that OP.

Have you always been scared about what other people think if you?

Life's far too short for that.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/03/2020 23:48

I feel the same OP. It feels like the people in my town have turned into pitchfork, flaming torch waving vigilantes.
I haven't been out for a week and I'm getting serious anxiety thinking about when I will have to. I have honestly never felt like this before. I feel like I should stay off Facebook and not see all the hatefulness but it's also a good place for information about what is happening locally.

I think I am going to have to force myself out for a walk tomorrow and get some fresh air and a bit of perspective for my mental health.

Ozgirl75 · 28/03/2020 23:53

It wouldn’t occur to me to take a blind bit of notice of a random person shouting at me to stay inside if I was out for my daily walk. It’s literally nothing to do with them. I would smile politely and refuse to engage.

We aren’t under such strong restrictions here in Australia but I’ve been out for my walk every day and I always bump into someone I know and we stop and have a friendly chat, 2m apart and it’s fine. I like these daily interactions and would find it utterly bizarre if someone took it upon themselves to shout at me about it.

In general though we have a lot fewer busy bodies here than in the U.K I’ve found.

hamstersarse · 28/03/2020 23:56

Agree OP

Peter Hitchens has written about it here in the M on Sunday

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8163613/Britons-ignore-orders-shoppers-leave-home-buy-paint-garden-tools-LAVA-LAMP.html

It isunreal how quickly people have given up their civil liberties

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 00:00

“ know social pressure is good and. necessary”

Is it?

As long as you’re in line with new laws, don’t worry.

Fatdoggle · 29/03/2020 00:09

I could not give one shit about my civil liberties. It is temporary. If we don’t stay in, more people die. It’s that simple.

Penguin34 · 29/03/2020 00:10

I felt the need to apologise to the lady in the village shop that I was buying chocolate and crap because it's not essential and to point out that it was because I was buying tampons that were! I did feel guilty tho

AutumnRose1 · 29/03/2020 00:22

Hamsters, I think you linked to a different article

The Peter Hitchens one says - and Ive singled this out because it’s really important-

“Crucially, those who began by claiming that we faced half a million deaths from the coronavirus in this country have now greatly lowered their estimate. Professor Neil Ferguson was one of those largely responsible for the original panic. He has twice revised his terrifying prophecy, first to fewer than 20,000 and then on Friday to 5,700.”

The article I’m thinking of is here
And no, I never thought I’d see the day I agree with PH!

MsMD · 29/03/2020 00:25

Stop being so ridiculous. You should be going out for essential things only. Things that absolutely can not wait and are essential to life. Whether that's what the government is saying or not - and that changes daily - it is surely common sense at the rate the virus is spreading.

That's it. If people judging you is what keeps you adhering to those rules, good.
