I work in a fresh food packaging factory.
3 x 8 hour rotating shifts. Probably employee 500 people in total its a huge company.
We still have "shift handovers" where we interact with the previous and oncoming shifts about how the shift has gone and what work is planned etc.
We have had 0 briefings about what they are doing about covid19. The above issue already raises alarms for me as people from other shifts arrive around 50 mins in some cases before they are due to start. The corridors are narrow so their is no room for social distancing.
We have had a text message only this morning to say 50% of each shift will start 30 mins early. The message states for my dept:
(all my dept have had this same message)
Night Shift:
Sunday 22:00-5:30; Mon-Thurs
21:30-5:30
AM Shift:
Mon-Thurs 5:30am-13:30; Fri 5:30am-13:00
PM Shift:
Mon-Thurs 13:30-21:30; 13:00-20:30pm
This to me still shows that a shift handover is necessary and doesn't do near enough to help reduce unnecessary interaction.
WE MUST have a 15 minutes either end of the shift to allow 1 off site and the other should arrive on site until this has happened.
I've spoken to the union, late yesterday and was advised if I'm not happy phone them back Monday after these hours are in place... I really feel production is being put ahead of mine and my colleagues health. My employers have also been setting temps on after a phone screening with view to start the next day.
I'm now due in 30 mins earlier next week at 5.30am and in scared to go in if I'm honest with you. I posted similar yesterday under a different title as it was a slightly different question I was asking.
Do I basically see this as us being "cannon fodder" the above message didn't go out until the weekend but I've spoken to friends who really are not happy
