AIBU - I've said to the DD's they can only go for a walk with a parent present

I'm officially the worst parent EVAH. But when they came with me for a walk yesterday, they were being complete and utter twats about social distancing, not taking care to stay 2m away from other people. It was so frustrating, they're smart kids, but really not getting just how dangerous this is, how they might be fine, but they could be carriers and give it to us and other people.

Sorry, see you've already realised this.

I don't blame you.
I think it depends a bit though.

my 12 year old is really taking it all seriously, so I allowed he to ride her bike to the not-that-close-corner shop to buy milk and come home. That was her exercise and food shopping. I know she will have been really pedantic about the 2m.

I know my 15 year old would be in a world of her own, and my 17 year old thinks he is invincible and it is all a bit silly, so no.

I'm torn on this. I think you are probably right, I'd be worried they'd meet up with friends and I'd have police knocking at my door. However, I can understand why they might want some time away from their parents.

I absolutely get that they want some parent free time.

Hell, we'd like some kid free time!

I'm happy for them to walk ahead, but still in bellowing and sighting distance.

It's very much unique to the child/young adult.

I mowed our lawn this afternoon, and discovered that my 17 year old has put a garden chair and cushion into the greenhouse to make a little chill zone for himself!

mbosnz · 27/03/2020 18:36

steppemum, that's genius! I might motivate mine to annex the garden shed. . .

last summer our neighbours put up a huge shed like summer house in their garden. Ugly thing, not for me. They put in a nice sofa. Never seen them in there.

But this afternoon I noticed that the mum was in there, feet up, cup of tea and her phone having a chat with someone, and I thought that I would LOVE her summer house right now!
