I’m aware places like Argos, toy shops etc are still operating online.

DS’s birthday soon. I went out and bought him a few bits before lockdown came about but I didn’t have enough money in the back to buy a lot. Want to spoil him at this terrible time as there will be no party, day out etc.

Is it ok to order toys etc?

Sounds like a silly question but obviously it’s non essential. Will take precautions. In all day at the minute so will get the delivery person to leave on my front step!

Aibu? I’ll try and order it all one hit rather than multiple deliveries!

Just to add. DS has sen. He really doesn’t understand all this and will be completely heartbroken if he doesn’t get much on his birthday as he won’t understand why.

If the businesses are open, then they are able to continue trading, employing staff and bringing in income, which is a good thing. So yes, go ahead and buy stuff. It will help to keep these jobs, and the companies afloat in the long term.

Yes. Please continue to buy stuff online, I've been trawling Etsy.

I agree with@dontgobaconmyheart. For your kid's birthday I think it's okay to order a few things (but maybe see if a local shop can deliver rather than going through Amazon). Otherwise, just don't. Everyone is up in arms about construction sites, but noone seems to care about warehouse/ distribution centre workers who are still being asked to work - often in environments where social distancing is difficult.

If they want everyone to stay in and not go out and about they will have to let some deliveries go on. People are going to need supplies to homeschool their kids, things like replacement chargers if laptop gives up, home repair stuff, light bulbs, batteries, clothes for kids that have grown too much, replacement tin openers,
There are lots of things that are not strictly essential ie food or medicine but things that will make isolation a little easier and enable people to stay home.

I ordered DH an office chair last Friday, it's due for delivery tomorrow. He's doing full time hours from our bedroom with the world's tiniest desk and a wooden dining chair. It used to be fine when I'd use it for an hour or two to check work emails from home, but not not good long term.

Other stuff feels like it can wait for now.

Of course. Just because all of this is going doesn't mean the world stops.
