I work in a high school , and like many, our school is open still to a certain group of children. However there have been around 9 children in all week, we usually have 950.

As a result, we have had around 7 members of staff in all week, same next week. There's a chance I could be given the odd shift every couple of weeks.

Obviously nobody knows for certain but i'm hearing a lot of 'schools won't be re-open until September', which is over 5 months away..
I'm a cover supervisor who doesn't have my own classes, I can't do any planning or anything because I cover different classes.

We don't use virtual classrooms or anything, just a learning platform on which we set work and it's marked automatically.

As a result, there is very little work I can do. I have nothing against my school but I am wondering if I should apply elsewhere now where staff are needed, e.g. In care, or admin jobs where I can work from home.

I did several hours of GCSE tutoring but that's obviously out of the window, that was about 20% of my income.

I'm applying for online tutoring but haven't had much luck, I imagine many teachers are doing the same.

Just can't face the thought of not (or very occasionally) working for the next 5 months.
What would you do ?
And I do know I am incredibly lucky to still be getting paid from the school.

Oh no there wont be any exams. Sorry not in uk.

Keep plugging away at tutoring.

Online tutoring?

Ditto as an invigilator, not our household's main income but it was enough to make a difference.

Can you do some online courses to keep your mind occupied?

Sapphiresunrise · 27/03/2020 09:19

No worries :)
I'll keep applying for tutoring but nothing so far.. I imagine loads of teachers are applying right now too.
