Hi all

Now that your year 13 DC have had time to digest the news that their 'A' level exams have been cancelled are they pleased or unhappy about it?

I don't mean missing out on the last day of school, leavers ceremonies etc but just the exams themselves.

Yes=happy
No=sad

Which one for sad...yabu?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 26/03/2020 19:10

She’s not dreadfully unhappy

She would just rather take the exams

PaquitaVariation · 26/03/2020 19:10

I have a y11 who was devastated a week ago, but seems to have quickly moved on and is enjoying his ‘time off’.

I don't think DD really knows as she has no real idea of how the school will award grades.

She has now had all her offers from universities in - she was waiting for one based on an phone interview last week.

One university changed their offer to unconditional almost straight away.

She has a little while before she needs to make a final choice on the top two, but is still unsure what to do. She waiting to see if the school have any more information around Easter time before finalising it.

Thanks for your replies.

My DS is upset that his exams have been cancelled but when I have mentioned it to others (adults) they are incredulous which has surprised me somewhat.

Mine is thrilled!

notquiteruralbliss · 26/03/2020 20:48

Mine is hedging their bets. Doing some revision for the subjects they might want to sit an exam for but otherwise enjoying the time off.

I don't have a Year 13, but I would imagine it will depend on whether they get to the University they want to, based on predicted grades. Given the shuffling around clearing every summer, it shows that predicted grades aren't always accurate and post A-level applications would be easier all round. Unless they take them in the autumn, they will never know whether they would have done better than predicted or not.

I have a Y11 who was delighted a week ago and he is still delighted now.

My Y10 is really upset that her education has been disrupted and is devastated because she feels her grades next year won’t reflect her abilities.

Maladicta · 26/03/2020 21:12

Mine is gutted. He’s genuinely enjoyed his courses, apart from the bloody Tudors, has worked really hard and wanted to prove himself.

Womenwotlunch · 26/03/2020 21:58

Mine is upset and will do the A levels in Autumn if she isn’t awarded three A’s for her predicted grades

Yr11 shocked last week, still a bit unsure this week.

He got mostly 9s in mocks but his predicted grades based on KS2 results were 4s and 5s. He is Autistic and didn't really start school work until yr 5 within an Autism school. We don't know how this will effect his results so are a bit unsure about winding down but also can't see the point in studying. He was very studious before this and is signing up to a few online learning courses to boost his qualifications, teaching his younger siblings coding and digging over our family allotment.
