So I've had a lot of messages from my manager today telling me she starts at 7am, and allows herself an hour for lunch, and she logs back on in the evenings to make sure she hasn't missed anything. I'm not inclined to be as vigilant. She's not exactly telling me this is what I should be doing. But hinting. Then again she has no kids, and I have 2. Also I've been sitting staring at my screen since 12pm as I cannot connect to the network, it's too busy. I have told her but she hasn't replied which means she's pissed off - she always does that when she's annoyed.. What can I do though.

I only work 30 hours per week. So I log on a 6am, work solidly until 12, then log off. I'll answer emails on my phone in the evening, but spend afternoons with my DC, and let DH get his work hours in. This is not the time for presentee-ism.

Ignore your manager and continue doing what suits your schedule. As long as the work is done, it shouldn't matter how you get around to it.

I start at 8:30 am and work pretty much to my normal office day but my son is 18 and organises his own day. I don't have any dogs I need to walk or anything of that nature, so I can work as I do in the office. Your manager needs to stop being a bully and get on with her own work instead.

I work FT, 37 hours a week - I’m logging on at 6-ish, working for 2/3 hours then helping my 7 year old with bulk of school work until lunch (nursing emails). Then swap with other half (who has been wfh all morning upstairs) takes over what’s left if school stuff whilst I work. I’m technically doing more than 7.5 hours but it’s fair to say I’m only working-working for that time. I’m lucky though that a) I only have one child b) my employer is supportive and flexible and c) my other half is wfh too

I only started two and a half weeks ago. Realistically there's very little I can do to fill my days as I've had very little training due to the rest of the team isolating on my second week. My manager knows this. He's giving me what he can and I'm dragging it out. I'm also unofficially changing my hours to 7-1 so I can take the afternoon shift with my preschooler.

Cottagepieandpeas · 26/03/2020 15:50

I'm FT and don't have any children at home.

I can't sit in front of a laptop for 7 or 8 hours a day though. I wouldn't do that at work and I can't do it now.

I'm starting about 8 and then stopping about 12.30 for an hour. Then a dog walk, then back for a bit more work., stopping at about 3.30/4.(Meetings allowing).

I really need a desk though. The dining table is losing its appeal. If I could get a desk I could work in the spare room.

I'm logging in at around 7.30, dealing with anything urgent then having a shower/breakfast. Keeping an eye on emails all day but also dealing with school work etc so not properly working again until around 3.30 when I then do another couple of hours. This is week 3 for me.

Areyoufree · 26/03/2020 15:56

Ha ha - well, considering I am currently browsing Mumsnet, my routine is probably not very good.

Carrie7469 · 26/03/2020 16:08

I log in about 6:45am, log out from 12:15 to 1pm, work from 1pm to 2:30pm

But I have to log in again on and off until about 6pm to deal with emails.

hellsbellsmelons · 26/03/2020 16:18

I have not changed my alarm
Goes off at 6:30am and I listen to the news, then turn it off.
Takes about 15 minutes and then my puppy is licking my face so I get up.
Do all the usual.
Put her outside, make a tea, ciggie.
Then back in to feed her.
Have a shower and get dressed, brush teeth.
Log on and get on with my day.
Breakfast around 8:30.
Take the dog out for an hour at around 12:30.
Log off by about 5pm (usual finish is 4:30)
TV and dinner and chill and wine.
Then bed and start all over again.

MedSchoolRat · 26/03/2020 16:58

I turned alarm off, but sometimes, esp in summer, my body clock resets so I am waking up about 5-6am anyway.

I get ideas about work to be doing so I may as well log on & start doing.
Try to get outside midday-ish for a while.

I'm tired by 4pm & had done 7.5 hrs total by then, which seemed like enough.
Now dossing.

amusedbush · 26/03/2020 17:03

I make sure I'm available between 9 and 5 but that doesn't mean I'm glued to my laptop. I tend to log on just before 9 to clear my emails and do any work that is sitting in my queue.

Then I'll potter about for a while but my emails/Zoom messages/Whatsapp ping up on my phone so I can respond quickly. I check in regularly throughout the day but our workload is light at the moment so that's enough to keep on top of everything.

This morning, got up at 05:30 and was lovely to have a bit of quiet time.

Had coffee, and did about 2 hours work before the 3 DCs got up.

Have been logging off around 16:00 but taking breaks leaving computer on.
