Feeling isolated and ignored by manager

I work in a decent size team (20ish) for the NHS so we are all very busy and quite stressed at the minute. None of us can work from home so we are all in at work spread out over different offices. Our roles have changed dramatically since the Covid-19 situation arose and we are all working very hard. Over the past few weeks I've worked overtime and also re-trained other staff to help out as a service need, other team members have had the manager asking if they are ok, checking up on the work load etc yet I've not had any contact from the manager at all so I've been feeling a little isolated and forgotten about. Anyway, today the manager came into the large office where I was printing something off, there were 2 other staff members there, the manager ran into the office, gave one staff member a chocolate bar and said this is just to thank you for your hard work then ran out of the office saying nothing to anyone else which I found a bit strange. I got back to my own office expecting one to have been left on my desk but there was nothing. AIBU to let this upset me? I just think a small gesture goes a long way for staff morale and I know the other staff member has been doing the same amount of work as the rest of us so hasn't really gone out of their way to do any extra work. I understand the manager is very busy, very stressed along with the rest of the team, just not sure why it can be done for one staff member and not the rest of us.

I have been told by another manager that I'm on the critical worker list where I am needed at my role in the office and also its probably because the manager thinks I'm coping with the hundreds of extra calls per day etc. Just don't feel very appreciated especially when appreciation is shown to others and I'm ignored. Thanks

Just to let you know that there are millions of people that appreciate you (and your colleagues) every day and especially right now. It might be that your manager is a dick, or it might be that they are supper stressed. Either way we appreciate you. Thankyou

@Ishoos Thank you for your very kind words, much appreciated.

The team I work with have absolutely risen to this challenge and worked their butts off non stop. I know my manager is stressed but it feels personal, not sure if I'm over reacting or not.

Why not have a chat if you get chance? You could frame it as asking how he/she is? Anything you need to do differently? I can’t imagine how on edge your workplace is. Good luck.

Its hard trying to get time, its unbelievably busy right now. I will try to do that though the first chance I get, thanks :)

YANBU, that’s a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Have some Flowers from me - I am profoundly grateful for the work you are doing.

That's bloody crap management.

I'd be feeling put out too. I know I am just a random person on this Internet. We see you and we are eternally grateful for all you are doing. I am sorry you're having to deal with the awful hand that has been dealt to you.

hellsbellsmelons · 26/03/2020 16:22

That sounds really harsh OP. I am so sorry you are being taken for granted by your manager.
BUT..... not by any of us.
You are an absolute angel.

We ALL appreciate everything you are doing.
Well done. Stay strong. Keep going.
We are all behind you!!!!

Zillerdy · 26/03/2020 16:37

Thank you so much for what you are doing. I wish there was a way I could send you chocolates or flowers. Instead consider yourself very much hugged (whilst practising virtual safe distancing).

Thank you again and again.

HollowTalk · 26/03/2020 16:40

It's really poor management.

I wish there was a way we could send something to show our appreciation for those working in the NHS.

cstaff · 26/03/2020 16:43

He sounds like a bit of a gobshite tbh. He needs to treat his whole team the same. I know that he is stressed and over worked but so are all of his department. If you find time he should be told he is being a tool.

From everyone on the outside well done OP.

Thank you all so much for your amazing support, I feel so much more appreciated now. I'm not frontline staff, those guys are the real heroes, but everyone deserves to be treat right for doing a good job. Thanks guys 🙂
