To think that having a smart meter will be a mistake?

There are cheaper tariffs out there (apparently I could save £239 a year) but the small print says that if I switch, I must agree to a s m being fitted within 3 months.
Anyone got one, love it and saved?
Anyone wish they'd never had on fitted?

Thank you, wise & experienced mumsnetters. The online advice is varied and often biased.

We've got one. I seldom think about it, to be honest. Its just there, recording my fuel usage. No big deal.

I have new smart meters and I use Money Saving Expert to check rates, pay monthly over the year, have changed to a lower tariff during the current year. There are an amazing amount of people who don't know what their annual usage is, or how it's spread throughout the year.

My friends elderly mother had her meters read after a 2 year gap,.she only has electric, was on standard tariff, and found her payments nearly doubled. When I looked I could see she'd made the same payment for two years but had built up a £650 underpayment, so her bills were being increased by £650 + £325 = £975 to collect the under payment plus allowing for additional usage. So I suggested she paid off the underpayment and got a contract, which she did. The contract reduced her bills by around £350, back to her original payment and she has smart meters so her bill will be accurate.

I love mine. We’ve recently switched suppliers and it’s still working fine.
