To be terrified to give birth right now

Planned a home birth but had a call today saying that they’ve had to cancel them all due to staff shortages. I really don’t want to have to go into a hospital at the moment, or carry a newborn through one. (At my hospital the maternity department is quite a walk).
Am I over reacting?

Obviously completely understand why they’ve had to cancel homebirths!!

When are you due?
I am also worried but there is nothing we can do really. I am hoping to be in and out of hospital as quickly as possible!
I know they usually keep you in to make sure you are feeding etc ok but I would rather work that out at home / bottle feed if need be at the moment!

8th April, second baby so hoping if all goes smoothly I can go home without staying over night! When are you due? X

I understand the worry, I’d be gutted in general as home births were so important to me. As you say it’s understandable but sad for you. I’m sure they will be taking utmost care and it looks like testing should be coming so that should improve safety. All the best Flowers

Not till start of June - but just don’t know what is going to be going on at that point, hopefully over the worst of it. First baby.

Can you give your midwife a call for some reassurance? I think just aim to be in and out if you can.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/03/2020 16:29

I know it’s really tough and very worrying, but you absolutely can do this

I’m due any day now but the midwife appointments I’ve been to at my hospital have been very impressive. There are compulsory hand washing stations EVERYWHERE, ie before you touch each door to the ward, and the whole place has been really empty. They’ve cancelled anything non-essential and it was weirdly empty.

They also said that A&E is the quietest it’s ever been because people are taking it all so seriously.

Is there a MLU near you that might be better for you as more like home?

Lauracrazygirl · 25/03/2020 16:32

I'm due the 28th april and its my first so I completely understand what your feeling.

No, you are not being unreasonable we are living in uncertain times and that of course is going to make us all nervous.

Sending hugs 💐

Who has voted YABU?!

I’m also pregnant and very scared. I appreciate that these are extreme times and I know obstetric services will be stretched but the workers will do everything they can to minimise infection and deliver your baby safely. Good luck Flowers

Hi, I am being induced on the 15th April which is 3 weeks time and right about the time ALL the people out and about like idiots this weekend will have symptoms and most likely be in hospital.

I am really shitting myself to be honest, I have an underlining health condition and nearly died after having DD2 and I'm scared if it happens again then there won't be the resources to save me.

You are not alone xx

RenegadeMrs · 25/03/2020 17:15

YANBU. Try and speak to a midwife to see what precautions will be in place in hospital to see if that puts your mind at ease a bit.

I'm sure if it all goes well they'll be eager to let you go!

Good luck for the birth.

I’m pregnant (first one) and I’m absolutely and completely shitting bricks. This has been a very difficult and unexpected pregnancy anyway with tonnes of invention. I’m healthy but they really didn’t think my baby was.

This is the first time I’ve admitted I’m frightened. But I am. I really, really am. We’ll be ok, OP. Because we have to be.
