His uniform. He has just started y1. He has come home twice now with blcak felt tip, marker pen all over the BACK of his jumper.
Firstly if it was the front of his jumper i could speeak to ds about it however the fact it is on the back suggests he hasn't done it.
The first time i overlooked it despite being the first time he had wore it., as it was only a couple of lines however today there must be near on ten seperate marks. The jumper is now ruined.
He has worn it twice. I bought it from school as it has the logo on and it was £13 so not cheap.
Should i go in and complain or will they say this is the reason for uniform i.e damage
Would you ask for a replacement.
TIA

dont think id ask for a replacement but I would ask the teacher what is going on in a 'is he able to get any work done? there seems to be messing about going on' kind of way

WotsZePoint · 10/09/2007 19:51

I would ask ds if he has any idea of how it got there?
If it was another child doing it, I would speak to the teacher.

Sixofone · 10/09/2007 19:53

Yes, I'd definitely want to know what's going on, have you asked him how it got there and what did he say?

But I think it would be unreasonable of you to expect the school to replace it.

LilyLoo · 10/09/2007 20:10

He said he didn't know but told me who sat behind him and then said one of the boys was messing around.
I don't want to be seen as a moaning mum but i think maybe the teacher needs to keep a closer eye on them when they are doing this activity.
Will leave the replacemnet thing then, i suppose that's why he has uniform.

Not only should they keep an eye on them, but maybe buy washable markers!!!! That is my huge pet peeve - the paints etc not being washable!!!! Grrrrrrrr1 I think its Teacher's Revenge!!

LilyLoo · 10/09/2007 20:45

LOL purpleduck. I work in a school so i know it's not easy but agree about buying washable stuff. Also i was hoping to get more than two wears out of his jumper and i am slightly concerned how ds can get on with his work when someone is drawing on his back

Yes, why oh why don't the have washable pens fgs?

I won't hand over paints and pens etc to dc at home unless I know they're washable. Most childrens stuff is these days.

islandofsodor · 10/09/2007 21:36

I complained last year. Dd's school jumper costs about £18 and her dress over £20 so I was not amused.

It will probably be the black whiteboard marker pens they use. I demanded better supervision or I would not allow dd to use them. They said they had to use them as it was part of the curriculum but would ensure they only used them sitting at tables rather than on the floor in small groups.

LilyLoo · 11/09/2007 08:38

I have sent a note in to the teacher today asking her to have a quiet word with whomever sits behind ds. Apparantly they do it on the carpet as oppose to at desks last year. I worded it quite nicely i think whilst getting my point across, i hope. It is the white board pens, ds did get marks on his top last year which i am sure he did himself howeveer i can't tell him to be more careful when it's on his back.
Will see what happens i suppose now.

It seems the letter worked as ds was told by his teacher today ( as a class ) that some mums and dads weren't happy about the pens getting on their tops so they will only use them sat at their desks from now on. I hope she doesn't think i am an ogre as she was new this term.

I think I would raise the issue with the teacher, but unless the teacher drew on his jumper I wouldn't ask the school for a replacement

Tortington · 12/09/2007 20:21

unless there is a dot to dot picture of barney over it i would send hid in with it - with a note to school - to bin the bleedin felt tips

agree with MB i think teachers scribbling on kids uniforms is out of order

Blu · 12/09/2007 20:22

Was he leaning against the board with marker on it, and it transferred?

LilyLoo · 12/09/2007 20:24

lol MB!
I won't be asking for replacement.
She will see the jumper tommorrow as i have washed it and it hasn't budged the marks so am sure she will understand why i had to complain it is an absolute mess but it will have to do now.

No Blu it isn't an imprint. They are lines and dots on it. ( Sorry hard to explain) the kids all have small white boards and their own pens, it must be chaos when sat at the carpet.

Lilyloo - you were perfectly in order to raise the matter with the teacher. He or she would not know this was happening unless some one told them. Is probably grateful to you for alerting them to the problem, esp if your note was politely worded. Which I'm sure it was.
