Ok, I am being unreasonable asking, but I really need some book recommendations for my sanity. Escapism please, epic adventures, fantasy, romance, action - I don't mind too much as long as it's an absorbing story and doesn't involve isolation Grin

The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters trilogy by G. W. Dahlquist.

The watchmaker of filigree Street. I’ve just read this in four days. It’s beautiful, gripping but gentle.

Sindragosan · 24/03/2020 19:57

I've read that one, it was beautiful.

The Chronicles of St Mary's, by Jodi Taylor. The first one is called 'Just One Damned Thing After Another'. I'm rereading the series just now, love it! it's funny, great characters and plot with a bit of history thrown in.

The Huntess by Kate Quinn. If you like YA, the Three Dark queen series by Kendar Blake. The first book takes time but the next book is good. There are four books in total.

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon will likely take you the whole of lockdown to get through the books are so long haha!

The Last Kingdom series and anything really by Bernard Cornwell. Also Good Omens and anything by Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman.

J.K. Rowling's Cormorant Strike books under her Robert Galbraith penname.

I spend a lot of nights reading to help me switch off at the end of the day.

I am massively comfort reading at the moment, so rereading a lot of books. The Green Knowe series, Agatha Christie, Pratchett. My daughter ADORES a series called 'Murder Most Horrid', which is essentially a mix of Enid Blyton & Christie, and I have to say the books are pretty good once you get into them. Very definitely not 'worthy reading', but I don't actually care. They're all just very soothing, when I've spent a day reading dry as dust academic things.

Thanks everyone, lots of suggestions!

I'm not looking for "worthy reading" just the sort of book where you can get lost in the plot and forget about everything else for a short while.

I liked 'The Wrath and The Dawn' a retelling of 1001 nights.
