To be furious with my husband's employers?

DH works for a company in the building trade. What they do is not construction as such, but is more cosmetic and certainly not essential in the current situation. They got a message late last night to stay at home today. This afternoon they all got messages asking how they felt about working. DH along with many others said that they did not feel they should be working and potentially bringing home the virus to their families not to mention spreading it around to other workers. They go from site to site, often two or more in a day.

They have just got a message saying that they need to work from tomorrow as the sites are still open or they have to take unpaid leave.

What is the point in myself and DD1 and DD2 all working from home if DH (who is 65 by the way so at risk from this) has to keep on working.

Surely this isn't within the spirit of the new rules?

Same position here. Dh has assured me they are staying 2 meters apart from each other which made me feel OK until he demonstrated his take on 2 meters...

It's so frustrating and I wish they would just tell him they're closing and make use of the 80%. They also supply a sector which has been ordered to close so not sure why they're wasting money all standing there.

I think the measures will soon be tightened to key workers only.

Same position! DP supplies the big builders merchants and is in constant contact with customers and paperwork they are handing over etc and the whole 2 meters shit is crap because in this line of work it’s not always possible! They are risking the workers also the families and the customers that come in and the companies that come to collect from them and their families! Don’t they realise how this is going to carry on if they don’t shut down! It’s not essential! I’ve seen people saying ‘well my DH needs stuff for his building company’ blah blah blah so that means my family has to be at risk just because that’s the decision your DH is making! It’s not right! DP has been told unpaid leave also .

I work for a housing association and we’ve had notice from our new build contractor that they’re all off site until further notice. They are halfway through a housing development and stopping is going to cause all sorts of havoc - site security, late completion, costs will increase, etc. But it is absolutely correct that they’ve been pulled off. Some things are more important.

I live in Scotland and Nicola Sturgeon has instructed all sites/construction work to stop with immediate effect. This sort of clear and decisive action removes the decision from companies who understandably want to protect their profit. Bosses are being pulled in two directions which is why it’s better for government to be clear.

I don’t think your husband should be asked to go in.

All I can say is DH is in a similar dilemma he is getting pressure from the parent company to stay open , workers want to close. So he Has no idea what to do. Some of the workers though weee huddled together in the smokers area not observing the 2m rule ! Difficult for wveryoen

I'm also in construction and we have alot of pissed off staff. All the office staff in still, none of the sites we are on have even mentioned closing. My company is really showing that they value wealth over health!

Not allowing anyone to work from home despite the fact that 80% of the office could. I sit less than 3ft from my colleague. Really thinking about just not going in, I'm shopping for vulnerable relatives and it's just not worth the risk.
