Is this much wear on a carpet normal? *pics*

Bought a house, no carpets, in a state.

Borrowed a lot of money to do it up. Moved in 3-4 months ago.
The idea was to buy decent things so we don't have to do it again for a while, we didn't scrimp.
Once the money is gone it's gone and we'll have to then re-decorate each room as the time comes and as the money comes.

We're a family of 5 and we have an issue with two rooms.
One is the living room, I noticed the problem agent 2 weeks the entrance to the front room carpet was looking tatty.
I was gutted but feel like we are a big family and it's a common entrance so that sucks but we have to endure it.

But now I've noticed my bedroom - by my bed the carpet looks crap. It stands out, and no amount of vacuuming helps.

The thing is, we spent more money on my one because it would last me the longest. The idea being, in the only one who uses my room and my room is used ^the least!>

I've added pictures but it doesn't show it very well. In real life it's really obvious.

Some questions I'm anticipating - we NEVER wear shoes in the house, we don't have pets, we don't have hard soled slippers, I vacuum regularly with a decent vacuum (Miele) and they never mentioned to us that this may be an issue.

The living room I could cope with - just.

But my bedroom which no one frequents? All I do is sleep in here!

By pure coincidence, I just ordered a Shark hoover. So I will see if that helps.

I have a Miele which is a really decent vacuum cleaner, so I'm not totally convinced a Shark will do much better but I will wait and see when it arrives.

I'm not sure what the carpet is made of, but it does have underlay.

It doesn't sound right at all OP. My last carpets were ones you could bleach as my ex husband would always spill coffee over everything and come in in muddy boots and we lived in the countryside. They weren't wool but a synthetic material that looked exactly like wool.
They lasted over 10 years and the only reason I had to change them was that the cat had scratched the hell out of them.
I've had wool once and didn't like it, it went like your pictures very quickly.

My husband knocks his coffee everywhere as well.
Is that why he's an ex?
Because I can totally understand it Wink

Brush with a hair brush and rake a squeegee over it.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 25/03/2020 07:20

Should I have to brush my carpet though? They never warned me I needed to brush it.

If they had, I'd have chosen a different carpet.

Everyone's suggestions are helpful but what I think you're wanting to hear is 'complain and get a refund'. Not sure we can say that from what we know but have you actually tried to raise the issue with the carpet company?

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 25/03/2020 07:29

I don't want a full refund and I don't want to change my carpets. Sad
I'm going to wait until the Shark arrives and see if that helps.

If not I guess I will contact them. I don't think I have it in me to fight for a refund though.

Those pictures look exactly like my upstairs carpets same colour and in some areas more warn compared to other areas not rarely walked on. Its frustrating the hell out of me to the point I'm getting new carpets and doing my research first this time Sad

Sushiroller · 25/03/2020 08:24

I think its crap and you should complain.
Ours are 5 years old and don't look like that.

I had a very expensive carpet fitted once (about £60 a meter) and it gave me the absolute rage.
Total cost in property was over 5k and it always was flattened, then wouldnt puff up then went bobblynd was generally hard bloody work. (light use no shoes)

Now i have the long pile polyproplene (sp?) stuff you can put bleach/explosive/napalm on which is about £15/20 a meter and i Love love love it. Easy to look after and nice underfoot.

Thehop · 25/03/2020 08:30

I had this with expensive carpet once.

I’ve got a cheap one down now and it’s been down 4 years and still looks great. It’s mad

I’d definitely get in touch with the suppliers and see what they say

superstar63 · 27/03/2020 14:36

OP Did you get your new shark and more importantly, did it help the problem?

I have the exact same thing and hate my carpet!

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 27/03/2020 14:47

Have you tried brushing talc into it? Give it half hour then vacuum it up. Sometimes helps the matted look. A lot of the time it's a combination of flattening and the oils from your skin.

LittleMissTeacup · 28/03/2020 08:33

My carpet seems to be the same as yours and we found brushing it with a dog comb fixes it back to normal...

superstar63 · 30/03/2020 12:16

Any recommendations for a good hoover as my Gtech has died and I think I need something stronger as it sort of "judders" over the trodden down areas.

justasking111 · 30/03/2020 13:08

I bought the shark, the one that does not wrap long hair around the brush, what a wonderful thing it is. Google hard, the RRP bears no resemblance to what you may have to pay.

superstar63 · 30/03/2020 15:24

Justasking - Which Shark model did you buy, is it cordless as there seem to be quite a few different models?

Thanks

CheshireDing · 30/03/2020 15:33

That doesn’t look good OP, no idea why though, sorry.

We had new carpet in bedrooms and stairs 4.5 years ago and it still looks fab.

We had a Miele before and now have a shark, I only vac twice a week and there’s 3 small children and no shoe house.

I wonder if the colour isn’t helping too ? Ours is a grey mottled thing but it’s nothing fancy, the carpet man said I can use bleach on it to remove stains if necessary and we get it professionally cleaned only once a year.

I would be very hacked off if I was you, I wonder if it’s the length of pole and dud you pay for a high wool/ fancy carpet mix ? ☹️

I would want to complain.
