People getting cars serviced and repaired

My DH works in a garage (in Ireland) and they have been run off their feet in the last two weeks with people booking in cars for services and small repairs jobs. They are telling him they are off work as their employer has closed so they are taking this opportunity to get their car done.

I have serious rage over this, its actually making me sick. These idiots are putting my DH and co-workers (and all their families) at risk for nothing. I have an underlying condition as do both my parents who are self isolating but I still have to call to them to shop for them, etc.

Why are people so selfish?

HaudMaDug
That sounds like an organised set up. Sadly my partners garage doesn't allow for that space. He complains about how they are all on top of each other at the best of times let alone now.

I have to drive to the hospital every day for radiotherapy. I'm very grateful that some garages are open in case of emergency but I would only use them if I really had to.

As long as they don't touch the people they will be working under the car and not IN the car.

Of course they're going to be in the car, they have to drive it into the service bay.

I live round the corner from Kwik Fit. I walked to my local Tesco to get supplies today and I was really surprised they are still open. It wasn't busy, which is fine, but surely people don't need to use their cars much if they don't need to go out...

longearedbat · 24/03/2020 15:50

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned totally depends where you live. My nearest supermarket is 10 miles away and we are in a rural area with no public transport. We need cars. There is currently no contingency for people to legally delay their mot. If you drive a car without a valid mot you are committing an offence. So garages are needed and they are allowed to be open.

YANBU, but the garage owner's are at largest fault for accepting the work.

All of our local garages are essential repairs/MOTs only and they're operating as close to contactless as possible. Servicing and non-crucial repairs are being cancelled.

How do people in rural areas get their shopping without their cars?

Not everyone lives within walking distance of a supermarket or their workplace.

I work at a car service and repair centre and we have decided to close, for the safety of our employees and customers.

You wouldn't believe some of the snotty emails and calls we have received today!

Someone even took the time to email in that they were disappointed that we had decided to take that step. Another person phoned up to demand WHY we had closed! Crazy.

They really do think that the world revolves around them and nothing else matters about from their wants and needs. Totally pathetic.
