Just wondering how many of you are experiencing gut problems at the moment and aibu to think it's the tap water causing it?

@RosieSunset Thank you I have read the link , we have been self isolating since I first noticed my son wasn't himself, both my sons have been coughing but only during the night, my two year old did have a high temperature on and off for a few days. All of a sudden I am feeling dizzy but that is because I am worrying now and my stomachs growling at me.

I won't be leaving the house however I'm not sure there's anything I can or need to do now?

The water is absolutely fine. I had an upset stomach on Saturday (not unusual for me) and I can’t tell you the last time I drank tap water. DH drinks gallons of it every day and is fine.

PeterRabbitt · 24/03/2020 13:46

I have IBS and under a consultant for management of it. After 6 months of experimenting with foods and keeping a diary of what happened each day it turns out my IBS is almost entirely controlled by my stress levels. As I currently manage a GP surgery with clinicians going down every other day and daily changing guidelines I am just a little bit more stressed than normal... My stomach has been playing up every day for the last 6 weeks and it's likely to carry on until this is all over I'd imagine.

Have a look at your diet and see if you eat lots of the 'no' foods on the FODMAP diet. You may find it helps?

Leflic · 24/03/2020 13:46

MoonlightMistletoe The article isn’t particularly clear but the amount of people withD&V and no other symptoms was minuscule. And they were all in hospital
If you remember the people who end up in hospital tend to already be in a risk group So those stats are a bit skewed.
I personally know of 3 people who have had Coronavirus. Obviously not tested but with proper Coronavirus symptoms ( all in the SE). Although they said it was a bit frightening they are all fine. In fact they were over the worse in about 5 days.
I work with children. I expect it’s something there although hygiene has been better at work.I do wish it’s a nice mild version of the virus but I guess we won’t know.
Hope you feel better soon. Take care.

slashlover · 24/03/2020 14:44

So your son has had a temperature and is coughing, the two main symptoms of coronavirus but you're blaming the water?

I currently have an upset stomach but it's definitely the stress/worry and I'm not sleeping properly either.

MoonlightMistletoe · 24/03/2020 14:55

@slashlover only because the main symptom is the D , and everyone I spoke to before at the beginning of my sons symptoms said it's probably just Gastro. The cough is just at night and not persistent. So since I've been drinking a lot more water and only have stomach problems no other symptoms apart from rashy face after showering I just thought it could be that.

From all of the replies here I've found that it's more likely coronavirus symptoms and nothing to do with the water, I guess we will never know because can't get tested here unless you are experiencing breathing problems.

Sorry if it came across as scaremongering that wasn't and isn't my intentions at all I am just wondering and worrying.

Pebble21uk · 24/03/2020 15:10

This may be totally irrelevant so don't wish to worry you, but you mentioned your son's breath smelled 'chemically'. If breath smells of nail varnish or pear drops it can be a sign of diabetes I think.

MoonlightMistletoe · 24/03/2020 15:12

@Pebble21uk Thankyou for pointing that out I should get him seen when this all blows over to be on the safe side.

Northernsoullover · 24/03/2020 15:15

I have an upset stomach every morning. I'm usually a bit constipated. I am putting it down to stress.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/03/2020 15:15

I’m coughing only at night, slightly short of breath/tight chest only at night. Cough is sporadic but persistent. I’ve had mild diahorrhea and a churning tummy for over a week. 111 said probably coronavirus. I don’t have a temp.

maggiecate · 24/03/2020 15:20

Breath smelling like perming lotion (ammonia presumably) suggests you son's kidneys may not be filtering urea properly - get him checked out asap.

Whoareyoudududu · 24/03/2020 15:27

It’s probably anxiety.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 24/03/2020 16:02

My stomach is gurgling like mad but it is stress related IBS. I’m self employed, my business is being hammered by the lockdown and I also have to try and save my income whilst simultaneously keeping an eye on two lively boys - one of whom has the 11+ in Sept and one of whom is on the spectrum so is a bit immature but due to sit a first GCSE in Nov. I’m also scared of anyone I love dying.

FloofenHoofen · 24/03/2020 17:15

I'm feeling even worse since I last posted. I feel sick and really really unwell. No temp though or a cough. Just a really bad tummy and that feeling like I've caught a norovirus or something.

Rachie1973 · 24/03/2020 17:20

I have awful IBS at the moment. I’m a carer and we’re short staffed because of the whole situation. I worked myself too hard then ended up in A and E with severe abdominal pain. Turns out I apparently need to poo more. Still hurting and needed 2 days off work sick so counterproductive.

ismellamouse · 24/03/2020 18:26

OP those saying that gut problems can be an early sign of cv are right - a relative who is a hospital doctor said yesterday 10% of CV patients are presenting with this. You are doing the right thing by self isolating but call 111 if anyone in the house needs medical help. Hope you're all better soon.

MoonlightMistletoe · 24/03/2020 18:53

@maggiecate Thankyou for the link and info, this is only when he's coughing and then sick which he hasn't been for a few days now, he's bouncing around as usual, drinking and urinating as normal. Definitely will keep a very close eye on things. TMI but I smelled his breath when I read the link and it smells normal as I said above it's only when he spits up.

Really don't think it's anxiety I've suffered with it for years I feel genuinely unwell.

@Rachie1973 That doesn't sound nice at all I'm glad you are better now.

@ismellamouse Thank you for the info, in short I feel like shit but no cough, I definitely will call if anyone presents with anything worrisome.

@FloofenHoofen So sorry to hear you feel worse, I feel like absolute shit, no energy, don't want to eat, was preparing the kids dinner and ended up throwing the chicken in the bin it smells off so cannot trust that. I haven't got a cough or a temp either but I do keep getting hot flushes and then going cold, I am due on in ten days so that could be hormones maybe ? Just want to put everyone to bed so I don't have to move again!

OP posts:
Artinsurance · 24/03/2020 19:05

For the last week, yes, but I think it's stress related as I've no other symptoms.

FloofenHoofen · 24/03/2020 19:33

@MoonlightMistletoe I have the exact same symptoms. I'm wondering if this is some kind of D&V bug tbh.

Justmuddlingalong · 24/03/2020 19:37

Despite taking 2 fybogel sachets a day, I've not had a jobby since last Wednesday. I think my body has gone into lockdown until the toilet paper situation is resolved.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 24/03/2020 19:41

Possibly just changed diet or eaten something dodgy?

MoonlightMistletoe · 25/03/2020 10:57

@FloofenHoofen how are you feeling today? I'm no better , not being sick but defo feeling sick and a horrid taste in my mouth that's not helping the nausea.

OP posts:
Bezalelle · 25/03/2020 11:07

I'm shitting like a Boglin, but it's probably due to pregnancy hormones.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 25/03/2020 11:52

Yes but it's stress and Crohn's disease!

FloofenHoofen · 25/03/2020 12:40

@MoonlightMistletoe I feel back to normal today. Normal toilet times anyway! My stomach is a little tender but I feel 100% better than I did yesterday. I'm starting to think I ate something dodgey. Sorry to hear you're still feeling under the weather, I hope you're feeling much better soon x
