Should I collect him from work?

my son is a front line worker, he has to get a bus to work. The car journey for me to pick him up is around 10 mins as no traffic, the bust journey probably 30 mins.

I'm working from home, should I pick him up and drop him in.

He's facing some really really though shit at the moment and is finding his job harrowing, he is in awe of the nurses where he is and is desperate to not get ill or infect anyone else.

I feel picking him up, may infect me, his father and brother, but we are healthy so hopefully we will be ok.

Please don't attack, I'm truly trying to limit who he comes in touch with, because I'm sure there will be non essential staff on the bus.

Lots of typos, sorry!

Does he live with you? Or somewhere else?
Could you lend him the car for the foreseeable future?

Potty9 · 24/03/2020 11:20

Does he live with you OP?

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:20

He does live with us, but no driving license, he was taking lessons, which have obviously been put on hold.

I'm really sorry I should've made it clear, he does with us, it's me, DH and his DB that live here.

ilovecakeandwine · 24/03/2020 11:23

Yes I would if he lives with you but stay in the car when you drop him pick up .

LoisLanyard · 24/03/2020 11:23

So if he lives with you, and you aren't getting out of the car to collect him, then that should be ok.

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:24

Thank you@ilovecakeandwine I'm thinking that is the best option, for him and who else he comes into contact with.

This is a tricky one. I completely understand why you’re unhappy with him getting the bus. The issue is he’s be sitting right next to you, presumably wearing the clothes he’s been working in?

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:25

@tiredanddangerous he could sit in the back? It would only be one of us that went to collect him, with me or DH.

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:25

Sorry that should say either me or DH! Just one of us to collect him.

Take him a change of clothes, in a cloth bag/pillowcase if you can so his dirty ones can go straight in the washer.

You're going to be exposed to each other by living in the same house. Not ideal but there's not a lot you can do. Follow the hygiene rules set out.

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:29

@QuestionableMouse of course, why didn't I think of that!

OP posts:
tiredanddangerous · 24/03/2020 11:29

Yes I would definitely sit him in the back. I’d be collecting him in your situation. We need to protect our children as much as we can, don’t we? No matter how old they are.

Potty9 · 24/03/2020 11:30

I think it would be fine and presumably the rest of you are social distancing / adhering to the lockdown properly? Sounds like it would make his working day a lot easier, and anything that can be done to make life easier for a frontline worker without putting others at increased risk can't be a wrong decision Smile

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 11:30

Yes as he lives with you you can (and should) pick him up.

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:31

@tiredanddangerous I think it's inevitable he will get it, he's has to go into high risk wards, it's the getting on the bus with others who are not essential workers so may escape it and then infecting them.

I do believe that nonessential workers are still working!

OP posts:
QuestionableMouse · 24/03/2020 11:31

You're also protecting the people on the bus.

I've been getting changed at work which is why I thought of it! 😀

PegasusReturns · 24/03/2020 11:31

I wouldn’t think twice about collecting him Smile

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:32

@Potty9 oh yes we are potty, totally adhering it's vital.

I had to collect my husband from hospital as he was admitted with breathing difficulties and suspected corona, we're waiting results to confirm, the paramedic said it would be fine to collect him as long as I didn't get out the car as I'm obviously in isolation too.

Frontlineson · 24/03/2020 11:33

@SnapAndFartAllDayLong I hope you and DH recover well.

AryaStarkWolf · 24/03/2020 11:33

Yes I would. Avoiding public transport is a much better idea where possible imo

PeterPanGoesWrong · 24/03/2020 11:34

Ffs, pick him up rather than expose him to others!

HopeYouStepOnALego · 24/03/2020 11:35

Give him a plastic bag with a change of clothes and ask him change into the clean ones before he leaves work. He should thoroughly wash his hands too just before leaving. If he bags up the worn clothes in the bag they can go straight into the washer when you get home.
