Okay.

I'm on a PAYG for internet, I'm on a very old cranky desktop and I'm not sure Ive ven got enough credit for this!

DCand I are disabled and we need certain supplies. they have run outin shops, and I cant get thru to anyone either online (where I'm limired) or on the phone (also ltd, as I'm on a PAYG on a basic phone, not an I-phone or whatever theyre called!)

Are the banks still open? post offices? I cant do online banking and I need to make sure ive got enough in bank for rent/bills etc.

DC needs to apply for universdal cred as shes 18 noe yet on enhanced PIP but I cant get thru either on phone or online, and to apply online tyou need to scan things to send. I don't have a scanner.

Our blu badge also expired and I cant get thru to anyone to reapply and we need the space, but I will NOT park in a disabled without a BB.

If I get thru to DWP or whoever the voce things says ''you can apply online''. If I could apply online I wouldn't be bloody phoning!

If everyones supposed to stay indoors, does that apply to postmen and women, and delivery dirvers etc?

Ive not been panicking at all during all this but now I'm starting to for our medical reasons.

sorry this is long. I may not be able to reply after, but please Id appreciate some answers.

Banks are open, post and deliveries are still running as normal. Go to assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/874732/230320_-Revised_guidance_note-_finalVF.pdf for the full list.

gamerchick · 24/03/2020 10:56

I don't think banks or post offices are open. I don't have online banking, I check my balance at a cashpoint.

gamerchick · 24/03/2020 10:57

Xpost. Good news.

Brokenchair1 · 24/03/2020 11:02

I'm not sure how helpful I can be but two thoughts. Depending on the disability of your 18 year old, is she able to pop to corner shop for essentials? Our local shop still has lots of basics and I believe things will calm down and shops are being restocked.

Are you on UC? Are you able to get a written message in your journal to your coach to ask about any changes. Some aspects of UC are going up during this difficult time.

Limited internet might be your biggest problem. Are you able to access a site like compare the market. When I recently switched provider I got three .o that free and then £20 a month after that. If you are unable to get online so you have a friend or family who can find you a deal.

I know £20 a month is a lot of money for people but if you can spare it, I think being online for your family now will really benefit you.

Good luck.

PS we've had lots of neighbours offering help etc and I'm dropping stuff off to neighbours self isolating. I'm sure local people wouldn't mind dropping off fresh milk etc.

Brokenchair1 · 24/03/2020 11:03

Actually that was about 4 thoughts 😂

Brokenchair1 · 24/03/2020 11:03

And three months free doh

noideaatallreally · 24/03/2020 11:04

Banks and post offices are open. Delivery drivers are still working too. Do you have any neighbours who could help you? Where abouts are you?

QuiQuaiQuod · 24/03/2020 11:11

Ok thanks . On last of my cred! No ono one to help us, we can go out to supermarket, but they are limited now, we have enough food for now, my main concern is that I have enough in bank to pay rent, all my utility bills are paid there too.
I would have thought banks would stay open as the staff are behind glass panels anyway? Not that I want anyone getting ill, of course!

Just basically wanted tro know that, thanks.

I'm trying to get someone in a 'service' to try and help me get through to DWP and UC people, thing is, its all happening nOW when all this panics going on and everyones getting in touch with them at all hours (doesn't matter what time I try and call) and we who have major disabilities cant access any help!

WIll keep trying as much as poss, and hopefully all will get back to normal soon.

Thanks for info.

Madison- thanks for link but I cant spend any more on the internet! Assume phone shops are closed where I get the credit.

Thanks all.

Can’t you phone up and add credit??

picklemewalnuts · 24/03/2020 11:22

Qui, there is a vulnerable person service you need to register for. I know you are struggling for data, is there someone else who could do it for you? You need to do it!

www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

PeterPanGoesWrong · 24/03/2020 11:33

There are help groups, sorry I can’t remember what name they use, but definitely check Facebook if you use it.

IVflytrap · 24/03/2020 11:38

Banks should still mostly be open.

Instead of scanning, try and take clear photos of the documents on a phone with a camera or digital camera (if you have either of these) and send those instead. Most people don't have scanners at home, and that's what people tend to do in that situation - I've never not had anything accepted because I sent in a photo instead of a scan. If you can't do this (eg if no one in your household has a camera phone) I would fill in the form of online, explain the situation and ask for their recommendations on how to proceed in your situation.

Good luck!

Most newsagents will do phone top ups as well.

picklemewalnuts · 24/03/2020 13:29

Local authorities are bringing in phone numbers for emergencies. That may help.

Poppi89 · 24/03/2020 14:17

Universal credit offers a loan so try and check if your eligible for this.
Do you have a cash machine (ATM) nearby that you can check how much money you have?
Most job centres let you use the internet and phones for free if ringing about benefits, jobs etc but I am not sure if they are open. Do you have one close by that you can check if its open today?

Whalette · 24/03/2020 15:01

Try a local shop rather than a supermarket, or try going to the supermarket earlier in the day if you can.

Join your local Covid support group as well if you have enough credit to do so.
