does anyone know if they have been mentioned? I have not heard anything and wonder what will happen to them whilst every one is staying home.

I think it was Spain who built temporary shelters for them and I’m sure we will do the same.

I was talking about this last night. I don't know, but I hope that they haven't been forgotten.

In the West end they are putting some homeless up in hotels to self isolate, also there are charities like the Passage who are working with homeless on a daily basis that are carrying on as usual.

Also one of the problems is pop up soup kitchens which are not good in the first place but even worse for social distancing and encourages close contact.

If you want to help contact places like The Passage

where i live (Brighton) there are loads and they normally are in groups and beg. so if people are not going out, no money and its not like they can social distance as they only have each other.

Homeless people have been allocated a one off amount of £168 pp Hmm

Ellmau · 24/03/2020 08:00

They're talking about using hotel rooms: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/21/uk-hotels-homeless-shelters-coronavirus. I'm not sure if they will take people with dogs, or those who don't use shelters normally bc they don't want to stop drug use who are the majority of rough sleepers in my area.

Bristol City Council has issued a plea for 450 beds for homeless people. They have already started using one of their own redundant office blocks as a night shelter before all this kicked off, do I expect it's full.

Bezalelle · 24/03/2020 11:00

What is the for, @CockCarousel ?

Bezalelle · 24/03/2020 11:00
Hmm
CockCarousel · 24/03/2020 11:19

Bezelelle because I can't see how a paltry sum like that is going to actually help anyone. A few nights in a B&B and then what?

LoudBatPerson · 24/03/2020 11:23

In London, deals have been made with some hotels and the cab drivers have been helping to move homeless people into them.

x2boys · 24/03/2020 11:31

I did see something last week on the news about temporary homes being made available for homeless people to self isolate ?

thebabessavedme · 24/03/2020 12:08

I was wondering how they are getting their drugs? I dont mean that fillipantly, it must be a dreadful way to live anyway but this is going to make them even more vulnerable, there is no way a desperate addict is going to self isolate or practice any sort of social distancing, I would think that unless we relax the law and provide some sort of collection/distriution and a safe place to use then these people will die in huge numbers

CockCarousel · 24/03/2020 13:29

I was thinking the same myself thebabessavedme. I doubt drugs will be easily accessible either - it's not so easy to traffic kids around the country to sell them in times like these. Maybe the government will have to lift prohibition? Otherwise pharmacies, vets and hospitals will be targets for lootings surely?

I was wondering how they are getting their drugs?

In my city, the outreach teams have spent the last two weeks explaining what might happen and the consequences. The users have then been given the opportunity to begin a methadone program if they want to. I'm quite impressed with how pro-active they've been.
