Am I missing something?

I have a family member travelling from Auckland, NZ to London Heathrow. She will be transiting via Santiago, Chile. I have spoken to the Chilean Consulate and I can't see any reason why she will be denied entry.

This was the only way to get her home. Have we overlooked any restriction/ban? We are all very paranoid and want her home (she has been working out there since Xmas).

I can hardly breathe from anxiety.

Why has she left it so late to get home? This has been coming for weeks.

millerjane · 23/03/2020 23:16

heartsonacake - her emploers were "keeping an eye on the situation". She has been fobbed off for over a week. I don't want to be too specific but she is training out there and has to clock up a certain number of contact hours each week (this was all called off yesterday).

We've just forked out £4k to get her home and we are by no means wealthy. Luckily we had the funds but had this been a couple of years ago it would not have been possible.

@heartsonacake Helpful...

Its the equivalent of leaving a mandatory university course with integrated work experience (sort of)

The employer was responsible for booking the return flight

Can’t believe they are allowing flights in! She should stay where she is....we’ve got enough covid cases

SuperFurryDoggy · 23/03/2020 23:38

Not helpful @heartsoncake

My parents only just made it back from India. They had flight after flight cancelled and completely unable to get through to their travel insurers (whose website advice was that they wouldn’t cover it) or airline. They had been out there since January, and booked flights to return as soon as the situation in the UK started to turn, but airlines have been cancelling flights and it kept getting moved back. We’ve been so worried for them.

millerjane · 23/03/2020 23:42

SapphireSalute - she has been tested recently and does not have it

In an ideal world she would stay in NZ. But she is 22 and just wants to be home with her family. Her company pays for her to live in accomodation that is not dissimilar to universiy halls.

If she’s just transiting through Santiago it shouldn’t be a problem I’m guessing? That way you never officially enter Chile.

Yesmate · 24/03/2020 00:19

@SapphireSalute the advice tonight is to get home as soon as you can.

Yesmate · 24/03/2020 00:20

Posted too soon. There was a mandatory 14 day self isolation for people entering the country (total no shops for essentials etc) not sure if that’s still the case?

millerjane · 24/03/2020 00:46

Yes she is just transiting through - only has 4 hr stopover. My relative had started self-isolation due to breathlessness (later diagnoses as anxiety). She was in her room for 7 days and is healthy and fit today. She's on her way to the airport as I type - fingers crossed. She's never felt so far away
:'(
