Please help - so worried about DD (7)

Apologies for posting here but I never get replies elsewhere.
My DD (7) was just getting ready for bed and came to me upset as she has found hair down below. Have looked and it is definitely pubic hair.
She has started to smell faintly of sweat on occasion and now I'm worrying myself sick.
She is a very young 7, she loves her Barbies and gone off to bed in her Disney Princess pyjamas Sad
Obviously I wont be able to see a GP with the coronavirus, can anyone please offer any advice?

Why would you need to see a GP?

Girls start puberty earlier these days, 8-9 in my case, 7 isn't that early, are you concerned for some reason?

helgahelga · 23/03/2020 19:57

Could be precocious puberty.

ludothedog · 23/03/2020 19:58

7 is a bit young. I think normals age range now for puberty is 8 and up, so she is not that much younger. I would start to talk to her about her changing body and what it means. Little and often is the best way to go rather than a big talk.

Bazoo23 · 23/03/2020 20:00

Texan - NHS site states before 8 should see a GP.

You can still call your GP, mine did a video consultation today for my DS and sent a prescription to a pharmacy for him. Just give them a ring.

Burgerandchipvan · 23/03/2020 20:04

You can still "see" a GP. It'll just be via phone. Call the drs tomorrow.

EmeraldShamrock · 23/03/2020 20:04

No I would not see a GP. What age did you get your period at? I was 2 weeks from my 11th birthday, same as DD. She was developing hair and sweat around 7.
She only gave up her dolls at 10.

Bazoo23 · 23/03/2020 20:05

I was 14 when I started my periods although I seem to remember having pubic hair very early on.
The thought of her going through puberty so young breaks my heart shes nowhere near ready for it. We are olive skinned and quite hairy in general.
She was only 7 in December.

It sounds a smidge early to me. My niece is 10 and my sister said the other day she has no signs of puberty at all yet... shes very thin though I think puberty can also be linked to weight, is your DD on the heavy side?

preponderings · 23/03/2020 20:12

DD was the same. The sign to worry about is breast development. We've a yearly check up to keep an eye on things. Bought her a deodorant and make sure she's wearing cotton t-shirt for sport.

mambanumber5 · 23/03/2020 20:14

Op I completely understand why you are worried. It sounds like precocious puberty and whilst not urgent there are plenty of reasons (not least the fact it can be a tumour in the pituitary) why she should be seen by a GP. Call the surgery tomorrow and ask for a telephone / online consult and see if her doctor wants to refer her on to an endo. Let them make the decision (as they are trained to) rather than Jan of Dudley who started her periods when she was 8 so it must be fine and how dare you be worried about it. I would be worried too. For perspective my 11.5 year old doesn't have any hair yet and is only just breast budding. I would say it's not normal to start your periods in infant school. Late junior is a completely different thing but is still relatively uncommon.

Bazoo23 · 23/03/2020 20:14

Shes absolutely tiny, still in 5-6 clothes.

She has no signs at all of breast development and no under arm hair.

Funbun32 · 23/03/2020 20:23

Look up adrenarche op but get a telephone call with your Gp to discuss! Not puberty unless breast bud development but could be adrenarche, which some children experience and totally normal at that age. See link below!

Bazoo23 · 23/03/2020 20:29

Thanks so much funbun that's really helpful. She has no signs at all of breast development so I'm really hopeful it's not precocious puberty.

I would still call the GP though and try to get a phone consultation so it gets put on her file. Then if you have any more worries or changes it's already registered from now.

Bazoo23 · 23/03/2020 20:52

I definitely will do. She was distressed by it bless her, I reassured her as best I could.

My niece is 10 and my sister said the other day she has no signs of puberty at all yet... shes very thin though I think puberty can also be linked to weight I don't believe that is true, it is genetics, my DD was 10 starting her period, she's 11 now in 9 year old waist cloths as she is tall, I've always been slim too.
She was definitely around 8 when she started developing breasts, they're still small but there. My friend is heavy she started her period at 14, her 13 y.o still hasn't had them, DM and the DD are heavy set.

Frozenfan2019 · 23/03/2020 21:25

I'd call the GP too. Just get a routine appointment on the phone. I have one next week that was booked ages ago for something that isn't really minor but certainly isn't major either. Life still goes on and GPs expect this.

ghostyslovesheets · 23/03/2020 22:12

dd2 was 7 and a half with pubic hair and sweat - Dr said anything from 7-18 was normal

she didn't start her period until 14 though

malificent7 · 23/03/2020 22:17

Sounds totally normal to me...dd is 10 and had periods, boobs etc. No biggie.

MowzersAsleep · 23/03/2020 22:18

Just ring the G.P.

millymoo1202 · 23/03/2020 22:23

My niece was the same and was taken to GP and checked for one of her glands, can’t remember which but all was ok so definitely worth a phone call as she is very young.
