To use communal garden given the current C19 issues.

Would it be unreasonable of me to use the communal garden daily as we can’t really go out anywhere now? I’ve got two DC, one 18mo and one 6mo, honestly the 6mo doesn’t care but the 18mo is going stir crazy! Is it safe and okay to spend a max of 1hr a day just letting her blow off some steam? They are the only children who live in the properties that share the garden, no one else ever uses it except to hang their washing out so we wouldn’t be near anyone or anything, and if someone was using it I would wait. I can’t decide if it’s totally okay or just ridiculous and I should keep them totally indoors all the time. Opinions?

Of course it's ok - people need fresh air and it's only fair you get to use the space too

Ponoka7 · 23/03/2020 14:46

You shouldn't be staying indoors.

If you have vulnerable neighbours and they are going to start using it because there's nowhere else to go, you could do a rota. CV stays in static air for about three hours. So just give each other a bit of space in between.

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2020 14:46

That's fine to do.

Ponoka7 · 23/03/2020 14:47

Keep away from washing, obviously.

billy1966 · 23/03/2020 14:47

Of course its ok.

Especially as its not a space others really use.

Children sleep better after fresh air.

Thank you everyone!! We’re going to go enjoy a bit of sunshine in the garden in a minute!

Please have some consideration re. noise levels though for all the people working from home. It's not easy to have a conference call with kids screaming in the background.

As long as it is physically letting of stream rather than screaming and shouting.

Frankiecandle · 23/03/2020 15:13

Let her go out and have a run around. Don't make her do it in complete silence either.

YouDoYou18 · 23/03/2020 15:20

I’m perfectly happy with the noise levels, if she manages to make more noise than the music from our opposite neighbour I’ll be very surprised 😂 and definitely no conference calls, got a pharmacy manager, two chefs who are now home anyway and three retired households, two of which spend more time in the garage tinkering away than they do at home! Luckily there’s never been any problem with us actually using the garden, the elderly neighbours especially really like it as they say it’s been too long since children played there! I was mainly worried for the spread of C19, I’m probably going to antibac all the common use surfaces after we’ve finished as well just so it’s extra safe for the neighbours

Please don’t stay indoors. I have this horrid image of people not understanding the social distancing rules and thinking it means they have to stay inside for weeks or months like a prisoner. You are allowed to leave the house for fresh air provided you keep your distance from others.

Just because people are having to work from home doesn't mean that children have to tiptoe around. I'm sure op doesn't let her children scream much but a bit of noise is inevitable and absolutely fine. We're all going to have to do a bit of compromising, it's far far worse for children to have to be trapped in most of the day than it is for neighbours to have to deal with an hour of so of playing noise.

We all have to ask the councils and the government to provide more green spaces.

We keep building, there's more of us and the overcrowding will lead to further spread of the virus.

NellyGrace · 23/03/2020 19:02

They are shutting parks in London though. We are going to be forced to stay indoors. They are in Italy France and Spain. Posters on Coronavirus section say so anyway.

AnotherEmma · 23/03/2020 19:07

Fuck peace and quiet for people WFH! I'm WFH and I also have a 3 year old. I know what's more important. Young kids need to be able to play outside now more than ever.

In Spain they are on lockdown and the poor families living in flats are literally cooped up indoors.

mineofuselessinformation · 23/03/2020 19:11

I'm now working from home.
It's deathly quiet round here, so to hear some children enjoying themselves would cheer me up.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 23/03/2020 19:53

They are shutting the parks now, but this will be over and we have to plan ahead.

Living like sardines with no green spaces helps viruses to spread.
