These are strange times indeed!

I often agree with him, but I found him to be very ranty with Matt Hancock today. I am not surprised politicans don't go on his show.

He also clearly doesn't have a clue about the complexities involved in responding to the virus

"Just give NHS workers free parking"

Matt Hancock (paraphrased): " We are considering this but it is not as simple as it sounds. We need to make sure patients can still get parking, many hospitals are city centre and we would have to be able to monitor it"

"JUST TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. WHY AREN'T YOU DOING ANYTHING"

Seriously, this type of "JUST" do this is absolute insanity and makes an assumption that other people haven't thought of your brilliant idea also, yet when you look at it, it takes a lot of working through and execution planning.

MinkowskisButterfly · 23/03/2020 13:36

Talking a lot of sense. You really can't argue with what he is saying.

todayisnottuesday · 23/03/2020 13:39

Same here! He can be a complete arsehole, but I liked his approach to Grenfell and agree on much of what he is saying atm too.

Changeofname79 · 23/03/2020 13:40

He talks sense quite often he is just vile in how he puts it across, interrupts and never listens to others.

I dont disagree with him entirely this time but I think the guidelines from the government are extremely clear, I can't see hide they arent. There is nothing wishy washy about it. We do need a lockdown as people are fucking idiots and dont follow the advice. Unfortunately it is not something that can be done in an hour. Maybe it should have been done sooner but I think there were reasons it wasn't.

It was annoying that Piers did not listen this morning as the HS was being very clear with his advice.

todayisnottuesday · 23/03/2020 13:41

Living in an overcrowded flat in a pollution ridden city is their choice

I despair.

Changeofname79 · 23/03/2020 13:42

Agree with pp about the parking issue too, he was not going to listen or try to understand at all.

todayisnottuesday · 23/03/2020 13:42

Where are the cleaners/ porters/ thousands of other low paid essential workers in London/ other suburbs supposed to live?

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 13:49

I love Piers to be able to do all these things overnight! Honestly !
They are overwhelmed by this. It's a big operation. I'm only just getting my head around it myself and I'm a nobody.
Give the politicians a chance.
Piers needs to lay off a tad I feel. See how it pans out

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 13:56

10 years of austerity has lead to a lot of key workers being ignored or reduced. Getting the people deployed is harder as there are less of them so it all takes time to organise as you are working with less people.
I'm not scoring points but I guess they are scratching their heads a bit thinking ' hang on a minute.. '
No time to plan any of this in advance hasn't helped.

LakieLady · 23/03/2020 14:03

I realise this is terribly shocking. I'm in the same boat as you, OP, but I just remind myself that even the odious Moargan can't be wrong all the time, so agreeing with him occasionally is ok. Grin

willowpatterns · 23/03/2020 14:16

He's only saying what many of us are thinking. He just has a much louder voice.

BritishHorrorStory · 23/03/2020 14:21

What’s wrong with agreeing with Piers Morgan anyway? Confused I don’t like a lot of people at work or in social groups and think they are twats but it still doesn’t mean that I can’t agree with them on things and feel like I’m being traitorous or feel dirty for it. It’s just tribalistic and silly to think like that.

strawberrylipgloss · 23/03/2020 14:26

it takes a lot of working through and execution planning.

I agree with this but can't help but wonder if part of Piers' anger is linked to Downing Street banning certain journalists from briefings back in February.

There is nothing wishy washy about it. I think that Boris has explained his strategy in a wishy washy way in contrast to his election persona of being a man of action who will get Brexit done. For example pubs have only just closed when we weren't supposed to be socializing unnecessarily for weeks.

Give the politicians a chance. I think that politicians can be shielded from the struggles of the sort of people that they don't have much contact with. They may have seen the state of supermarkets in the media but until you see how many people are queuing at opening and empty shelves yourself, you might think it's media exaggeration. Not being able to get pasta isn't the end of the world but no formula and Calpol is extremely serious and unless you know someone desperately searching it have been there yourself you could be blissfully unaware.

Troels · 23/03/2020 14:38

Well I don't really like the man but his rant was spot on.www.facebook.com/graeme.keast.50/videos/201070887980585/UzpfSTExOTU2MDI2NjQ6MTAyMjIyODUwOTMwMTQ5Nzc/

AlternativePerspective · 23/03/2020 14:40

To be fair though there are plenty on this site calling for draconian measures and for the government to do this and that now except that when it happens they suddenly start to backtrack.

So, we had “the government needs to close down schools,” so when they did there were sudden outcries of “what am I supposed to do now, closing schools were a bad idea.”

Then we had “the government needs to close all cafe’s and bars and restaurants.” So they did, and then the population flocked out in their droves to get pissed on the last night of opening and then to congregate outside the cafe’s who were still doing takeaway, thus forcing those to close as well.

Now we have “the government need to put us into lockdown now.” Guarantee that when that happens (and it will be when and not if because people can’t observe common sense,) they will complain and wine about that and say how the government is taking away our freedoms and and and....

FlushedZebra · 23/03/2020 14:44

Not me, alternativeperspective - I was so relieved when the schools were closed, and the pubs - and that feeling remains. Not least because it's stopped my 18yr old trying to go to the pub.

We need a lock down, to protect the public. (From themselves, in many cases).

FoxEars · 23/03/2020 14:46

Love Piers Morgan

The man talks sense and is straight talking

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 15:34

There isn't a capacity for a every town to have road blocks or whatever.
It must be a headache to even plan.
