In the last 24 hours people have started threads about the banks failing, the water supply being polluted and now a thread about rationing by Christmas.

Mumsnet can I PLEASE ask you to zap these threads. Unless the posters have credible evidence for their claims it's clear they are scaremongering. You should not be encouraging sick individuals who get their kicks from frightening people. On the one hand we have this crud and on the other vulnerable posters are writing about how worried they are. There is a direct connection between the two.

What people need to do is make sure they start the threads in the Coronavirus topic, so those who are struggling can block the whole topic.

caz114 · 23/03/2020 11:51

@ daisypond

Could not have put it better.
Mumsnet has been a source of information and debate for me during the past two weeks when I have been self isolating and I hope it continues to do so

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 11:57

If you're struggling then spending time on a Coronavirus sub forum isn't going to help. You need to take responsibility for your anxiety

It's EVERY fucking where on here, not just the coronavirus forum.
Some of the posts are downright scaremongering, dangerous misinformation and yeah, it needs to be clamped down on.
YANBU

Mnhq always move it. If you see it report it to move it.

Hingeandbracket · 23/03/2020 12:05

Thankfully MNHQ has removed a couple of the worst threads today.
I understand it's a balancing act but I think they are doing a good job.

Being informed is one thing.

People posting unsubstantiated nonsense based on what they think might happen and trying to dress it up as facts is just daft and uncalled for.

Nousernameforme · 23/03/2020 12:06

I have deleted the app and will only come on here for a bit in the mornings now.

I think a large problem is the way posters post an opinion as fact and it's not. They don't have access to secret information the government is hiding from you. You need to treat them like any other conspiracy nut. But that's easy to say when your mind isn't frazzled with anxiety

LynnSchmob · 23/03/2020 12:13

I’ve been in Mumsnet for about 13 yrs bad I’m seriously considering leaving. Some of the thread are unbelievable. Just fear mongering for kicks. It makes the daily mail’s coverage seem balanced.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 23/03/2020 12:15

@daisypond It would be irresponsible for MN to block them for those of us who are try to take some responsibility and be informed

That's just it though, a lot of us ARE trying to take some responsibility and be informed, but through the actual media, and FACTS rather than "Brenda down the road said she saw army tanks going down the road last night" or "Dave's next door neighbour's friend is an Army official and we're all off into lockdown 24 hrs, be warned!" type crap.
There's being informed and there's swallowing any old crap - "it's on the internet so it must be troo, so it is!"
Erm, no.
Just because we don't want to see all this shite doesn't mean we aren't keeping informed.
