Is it irresponsible of me to put my sofa up for sale on Facebook?

Before the impending apocalypse, 12 weeks ago we ordered new sofas. They are arriving this week (unless that gets stopped, or they don't have enough staff or something).

Provided they arrive, we need to get rid of our large corner sofa which is in good nick and not good for chucking in the dump 😭

Would it be irresponsible of me to put it on Facebook market?

I'm not sure what to do, we could end up unable to enter our front room for sofas!

Ok no ones frothing at the idea so I reckon I'm good to go!

I highly doubt anyone will want it at present! Who's going to pick up from a stranger's house?

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 23/03/2020 08:35

I thought that.

But I guess if people are delivering sofas then some people out there might want to collect?

And maybe people who have to stay in might want something comfy and new to sit on?

Well you shouldn't have anyone in your house, so how will that work?

Selfsettling3 · 23/03/2020 08:39

It won’t work.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 23/03/2020 08:42

They won't come into the house.

DH is moving it into the conservatory, if they were to collect then it would be moved into the garden to go out the gate - it's a LOT easier than getting it through the front of the house.

No one needs to come in.

The only problem is is that it can't stay in the conservatory because of the space. Or lack there of.

My neighbour died of corona virus on Saturday, he''d been in hospital for over 2 weeks so before it was publicised. He hadn't been away.

Tell the sofa company you are self isolating

TheNoodlesIncident · 23/03/2020 09:23

We had some large items cluttering up a room in our house, DH has wanted me to list them on eBay but I hadn't. We decided to just get rid and just take them to the local tip, then DH thought he would advertise them on Facebook, as free to a local business. Within minutes he had a local chap wanting to come and collect them, so we put them out on the drive. When the bloke turned up he collected them from there and didn't have to go near DH or into our house. Maybe you could dispose of your sofa that way? Obviously you have to have a drive or space at the front/side of your house to do it this way...

(Also, the bloke collecting from us told DH (who told me after he'd gone) that he was starting up a new business in a small town near us - a new cafe type of thing. DH was stunned that anyone was thinking of starting up a new cafe in the current climate and said bleakly, "He doesn't seem to get it at all" Shock )

"The only problem is is that it can't stay in the conservatory because of the space"

In most places, the council will take away furniture without cost, for a few times per year
Check your council site and phone for a collection ?

Not the time to be trying to make money on FB unless you need it to buy food

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 10:44

Council workmen will have had training re hygeine, so much less risk than random strangers

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 10:44

If it will fit in the conservatory so someone could collect it then there is room.
This is far from essential. It can wait.

LolaSmiles · 23/03/2020 10:46

Personally I would say it can wait. Keep them in the conservatory til it's a better time.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 23/03/2020 14:22

Nope can't stay in the conservatory because then we wouldn't be able to feed the tortoise, open the fridge or hang the washing.

That's why I said there wouldnt be room.

I just said we could put it there, before putting it outside for collection.

I'd rather the council didn't collect it but I guess that might be our only choice given that nothings going the way anyone wants any more.

cactus2020 · 23/03/2020 14:49

Put it on Freecycle. You can arrange for someone to collect it without even coming in the house, no contact, no money changing hands. Probably the best outcome at the moment.

Canadianpancake · 23/03/2020 14:53

Our council said this morning that they wouldn't be doing their bulky item collection for the foreseeable future, so that may not be an option. Either way I'd wait for your to be delivered before you make any decisions, it might not turn up yet .

Desperateforadviceplease · 23/03/2020 17:07

Gosh dont throw it in the tip- put it on free cycle and facebook or juat outside (saying free)

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/03/2020 17:19

Maybe Freecycle/Freegle it? Or contact the local Rotary/Lions?

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 17:42

Our lions club aren’t picking anything up.
Hang washing indoors?
Move tortoise?
Move fridge?
No non essential contact.
You may not get the new one either. I’d hand on to it.
