Aibu to go and get child so early

Hi, I went to my mothers house with my baby. My baby was spending the night and my mother was smoking, I then asked if she’s smoking and my child’s here (my baby was upstairs with my little sister. My mother was downstairs with me wanting to smoke) she then said she’s going in the bathroom to smoke and she will change her T-shirt after. I’ve decided to ft her later on and she still had the same T-shirt on. I asked her about it to which she was really rude and said “stop watching me and watching what I’m doing and stop assuming” and then she said “I didn’t smoke but if it’s a problem come and get your child” it’s nearly 6am and I’m going to get my child seeing as she’s being really rude.

“don’t be a smart mouth”
Wow. How rude. YABU to go and get your dd at 6am unless you know your mother is up. two wrongs don’t make a right.

Your mother didn't like you assuming she was smoking and you think you were justified? People assume you were breaking the guidelines and they're not justified?

Double standards much?

AmelieTaylor · 23/03/2020 06:38

Your mother is a smoker, so it’s hardly surprising she was smoking is it?

It seems highly unlikely you’re a doctor or a nurse so stay home with your baby.

Shelf stacking is ‘key work’ but you’re not a key worker, there are plenty of people without babies that need minding at night that can fill shelves.

Stop being so rude

Soontobe60 · 23/03/2020 06:44

I said YABU for two reasons.
Firstly, your dm hasn't just started smoking so you knew there was a chance your baby would be exposed to smoke.
Second, you haven't explained why you had to send your baby away for the night.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 23/03/2020 06:48

You do know it's not just nurses still working right? What if OP is an HCA, a police officer, a fire fighter, or a prison officer (it seems unlikely she's a child protection social worker), there are plenty of jobs that still need to continue that can't just be done by anyone who's just been laid off from bar work.

BuckingFrolics · 23/03/2020 06:52

Smoking mother is least of your current problems. I think you're taking you're stresses out on an "easy" target. You sound v stressed - we all are, including your mother - I would try and avoid personal animosities and conflicts atm as we all need one another and need to focus on what matters.

Why did you leave your child there in the first place?? Even smoking in the bathroom is exposing your child. Also I agree with a PP the reason was likely inconsequential and you do seem very very rude!

Skittlesss · 23/03/2020 11:41

This is like the friends meme...

BoJo: social distancing please
OP: ma, have my baby overnight

Puffalicious · 23/03/2020 11:48

Rude. Condescending as hell: 'love', noone's your love. Rude.

Roweeeeena · 23/03/2020 12:01

Apple and tree springs to mind

NoSauce · 23/03/2020 12:06

Your posts are hard to understand OP.

Exactly why is your mother having your child?

Sparklfairy · 23/03/2020 13:49

OP won't come back. She's well and truly flounced Grin

Wolfiefan · 23/03/2020 13:51

@Sparklfairy it’s not a flounce unless you tell everyone you’re flouncing. Grin
YABU OP.

YABU to leave your child with a smoker, what did you think was going to happen?
