To get a takeaway?

I want to support local businesses where I can. With all the restaurants, cafes and dessert bars closed, many are now open just for takeaways. I keep seeing posts telling me to stay indoors. It is irresponsible of me to pop by and get a takeaway?

Most are doing contactless collection Smile we’re getting a takeaway tonight- paying via phone, calling the restaurant when we’re outside and they’ll come out and pop it in the boot of my car. Enjoy!

AlwaysCheddar · 22/03/2020 16:22

No. Getting a take awAy is fine.

HarrietThePi · 22/03/2020 16:22

Call ahead and see if it's possible to make an order and then turn up to collect it or get it delivered?

DesLynamsMoustache · 22/03/2020 16:22

Nope, as long as you maintain social distancing! The takeaways round here have generally published rules such as waiting in your car and they will bring it out and leave it beside or only allowing one person at a time in. And contactless only, wherever possible.

We are getting a curry from the local curry house. Keep supporting them.

delilahbucket · 22/03/2020 16:27

Of course not and local businesses need you. A lot are offering free contactless delivery. Dp picked up a take away afternoon tea this afternoon.

vitaminCandzinc · 22/03/2020 16:27

good idea @HarrietThePi I shall do that. @DesLynamsMoustache I can see out my window a queue for an incecream bar where everyone is standing 2m apart along the street and they're only letting in 4 people at a time.

YANBU as long as you maintain distancing!
MIL works in a chippy and says it was awful yesterday with customers standing practically on top of each other waiting for food!

Theresnobslikeshowb · 22/03/2020 16:32

I had a take away last night and are tonight as our food shop doesn’t arrive for a few days. Last night they knocked the window, then left it on the door step. Fine for me. The bag it came in straight went straight in the bin and I washed my hands before and after dishing out, before sitting down to eat.

NeverYouMind123 · 22/03/2020 16:32

My concern with a take away is if they've touched your food??

namechangenumber2 · 22/03/2020 16:33

Go for it! We were going to have one tonight but decided to save it for another night ( give me something to look forward to!)

goose1964 · 22/03/2020 16:34

Found here we even have pubs delivering beer

Longdistance · 22/03/2020 16:35

I’m having fish and chips for Mother’s Day as there is no meat in the shops for a roast 👎🏻

namechangenumber2 · 22/03/2020 16:35

@NeverYouMind123 , I was reading something the other day about making sure you decant the food ASAP, wash hands and ideally zap the food in the microwave. I think there's a bit of concern over how long the virus can stay on cardboard?

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/03/2020 16:36

We had an indian last night. Paid over the phone, went to collect and rang up when we arrived so they just brought it out to the car. I might be a bit more reticent about takeaway cold food (I have seen cake shops and sandwich places advertising takeaway) but hot food will have deactivated the virus through cooking.

cactus2020 · 22/03/2020 16:50

Go for it. You will want these businesses to be there when this is over. We have had two no problem.

adaline · 22/03/2020 16:52

We had chippy tonight 😊

They had the following precautions in place

  • contactless payment only
  • one person in the shop at a time to order, then wait outside/in your car to collect your order
  • contactless delivery available
