11 amazing things mums do and never get thanks for

www.bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people/11-amazing-things/zvsk92p

E.g.

  1. Clean up constantly
  1. Do all the laundry (why ALL of it??)
  1. Know where EVERYTHING is (the mental load in action... Hmm

Hideous.

whatswithtodaytoday · 22/03/2020 08:57

Awful. God, such bullshit.

GetyourFaLaLasRight · 22/03/2020 09:00

Do they only consider you a mother if your child is aged between 0 and 5? There is a hell of a lot of mums with older children who support them just as much in other ways.

Poor show bbc

BogRollBOGOF · 22/03/2020 09:02

How many AIBUs are from mothers who tend to do all this kind of thing on autopilot with a DP that has to be directed to do all the small stuff. For many, it's not untrue even if it is a bit sacherrine.

SimonJT · 22/03/2020 09:03

Wait I minute, I do most of that? Have I turned into a mother?!

We shouldn’t be surprised, look at the pay gap at the BBC.

pitlochrypat · 22/03/2020 09:04

I think it's probably true, certainly for lone parents.

It's nauseating though, the only good point is that it gives us something to talk about on here whilst stuck indoors.

Lycidas · 22/03/2020 09:04

My problem is that they're pushing the message of 'girls can/should be able to do anything', which is all good and well, but then they're reduced to SOLELY being this as mothers...

Yep, ridiculous. I am a lone parent of teens and do one hell of a lot more for them - including earning all the money to keep them going while their dad has fucked off. They forgot to mention that!

strawberrylipgloss · 22/03/2020 09:17

I'm a lone parent of teens. I don't do any of that list except the lion's share of laundry and cleaning

Babdoc · 22/03/2020 09:19

The commercial view of Mothering Sunday is nauseating. A patronising pat on the head for the little woman, designed to keep her in her place for the rest of the year. It’s trying to romanticise servitude.
The original festival was when congregations of smaller churches returned to the main “mother church” to worship together.
Thankfully, none of us have to follow the media script. Each family is different and we can all celebrate however we see fit. And we can certainly role model a more kick ass version of motherhood to our DC!

iismum · 22/03/2020 09:22

It’s also a bit pushing the idea that we secretly love being a dogsbody. We do all of this with a smile on our faces - do we fuck!

AnnaMagnani · 22/03/2020 09:35

Are you only a mum if you have children under 5? Also I can do all the mental load stuff and I'm not a mum - hard stare at DH Envy

It could have been a bit more diverse and less about being taken for granted.

Queenoftheashes · 22/03/2020 09:38

Ugh hideous

Celerysam · 22/03/2020 09:44

All of this "We must gender stereotype" really bugs me. Women do give birth, woman do breastfeed for the first year of a child's life and therefore need to be the ones that stay at home to look after the child and therefore they do so more of the house work and more of the parenting.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 22/03/2020 10:31

Most adults do this regardless of their parental status. Load of crap.

koshkatt · 22/03/2020 10:41

Fucking hell. The BBC really is stuck in the 1950s. Wankers.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 22/03/2020 11:04

Bet my dp wishes he lived with some of these women hahahaha!
