Can you name all the countries?

And also place them on the map?

Very random I know but I’ve been playing sporcle and really want to learn them all but wondered if most people already know them and where on the world map they’re located?

If you do know them all, how did you come about to learn them all?

Yes - my free periods in 6th form back in the day served me well!

For countries of the world I would recommend starting on Jetpunk first before moving onto Sporcle. (The Jetpunk website lists in alphabetical order by country as you type making it slightly easier). Also try and remember countries in groups . Ie 12 South American countries, 4 'guinea' countries ....

JagerPlease · 22/03/2020 06:49

Sporcle is the only thing keeping me sane through self isolation! I never quite manage to get all 197 but miss different ones every time

To PP on the 197/195 thing, Taiwan and Kosovo are the 2 countries that are disputed

Seventyone72seventy3 · 22/03/2020 06:58

Yes, another one here who learnt them all through Sporcle! Another tip for you - practise doing the individual continent quizzes before doing the whole world. And it helps if you can touch type!

Luc1nda · 22/03/2020 07:08

Yes because I have a bit of a photographic memory, so in my head I can picture a map of Europe and name the counties within it from left to right, north to south.. and their capital.

Seriously, isn’t that how everyone knows them, photographic memory or not?

(And if you have a photographic memory, why don’t you look at a map of Africa and memorise the countries of that continent too? Seems odd to have stopped at Europe when it’s only take you a minute!).

Luc1nda · 22/03/2020 07:13

May I recommend freerice for free quizzes and an apparent charitable aim?

FatherDickByrne · 22/03/2020 07:35

Sporcle-user here too. I can do all the countries and about 75% of the capitals atm. Been working on Africa over the last coupla weeks and finally have it sorted. Now just need to do Central America, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands. Boom!

I anticipate being rubbish but have just downloaded the app. I usually stick to free apps but with so msny recommendations on this thread it definitely seems worth getting.

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 22/03/2020 08:23

I love Sporcle! The geography maps are how I learnt countries of the world though I am rusty now as haven't played for a while. I'm quite good at US states too. Terrible at Central America and Oceania, I find the islands very difficult to remember.

There's a good one of all the English counties that I found a few years back when I realised I had very poor knowledge of them.

I played quizzes in the last part of maternity leave whilst waiting for the baby... now I don't have time for them!

nutellafortea · 22/03/2020 08:25

Some years ago I realized I was really rubbish at locating African countries. So I used this site to learn more about them:
www.sheppardsoftware.com/African_Geography.htm

Now my favourite quiz is this one:
www.jetpunk.com/user-quizzes/6121/countries-of-the-world-with-an-empty-map

So yes I can name and locate all countries in the world. At the moment I'm working on my goal to read some fiction from each one of them. I can see years of entertainment ahead of me :)

But now I'm off to try sporcle :)

BigRedBoat · 22/03/2020 09:10

188/197, I haven't been on sporcle for ages though, I might get better at it by the end of isolation!

TheVanguardSix · 22/03/2020 09:14

I grew up with a world map on our kitchen wall.
I've the same in my own home.
My geography is, pardon the boast, amazing!
Know your rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, seas, straits, etc. as well!
Having a world map on your wall is such fun.
And do lots of online geography quizzes.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 22/03/2020 09:23

Similar to a poster up thread, if I can’t sleep I start at the letter A, and name 10 countries and or cities, then the letter B and so on. Some letters aren’t as easy as they sound, and other times i’ll think they aren’t allowed to be in the USA. I’ve got as far as M once, never any further, but mostly to about the letter G.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/03/2020 09:27

I usually get around 140-150 on Sporcle, then run out of time. Given another 5 mins, I could probably get nearly all... How do people type that fast?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/03/2020 09:31

I get my Stans muddled in Eastern Europe.

Need to try again

1066vegan · 22/03/2020 09:36

Didn't realise straight away that there was a timer. That panicked me when I was half way through a quiz and suddenly stopped it.

I haven't braved the geography quizzes yet; I stuck to my comfort zone and tried history, art and literature. Downside: almost all the history quizzes are American history. Upside: the British ones that I did find were so easy that I picked up some easy tokens and felt cleverer than I really am.

MoonlightMistletoe · 22/03/2020 10:58

Erm, I'm rather good at guessing where things are on a map, geography isn't my strongest point.

Grumpyunleashed · 22/03/2020 12:01

Let’s see —

England.

Job done!
