Should he stay at home?

Currently in a standoff with DH. He is a bank manager but with well-managed asthma for which he takes inhalers daily. AIBU to think in these circumstances he should be staying home and not working? His opinion is that as his asthma is not causing him problems now he should work. My opinion is that it could cause a problem and be a potential burden on the NHS. Who is correct?

You are. He needs to self isolate as asthma is on the list. It might be well controlled now, but doesn’t mean it will be if he contracts CV

He should absolutely be at home not taking any risks.
The hospital bed he may end up in are in VERY short supply...

Merryoldgoat · 21/03/2020 21:27

He should be home.

I have asthma that barely requires inhalers and my doctor has said I should be home.

I also have well managed asthma and have been told by my nurse in my annual check up to stay at home.

He needs to stay at home. Doing anything different is selfish. It puts himself, other people and the NHS at risk.

I have asthma that is generally well controlled. I’d been advised to carry on working and I’ll be risk assessed...
I was close to calling 999 earlier because I now have a cough and tight chest and it took a lot of salbutamol to get me symptoms under control. If he can stay home, he should.

Thanks for all of your responses so far. I'm showing each and everyone to him.

We're moving this to the coronavirus topic now, @Springb0ks Flowers

I agree that he should be self isolating. Out of interest - what is the view as to whether you/anyone else in the household should also be self isolating with him? I'm on the other side of this argument (I'm self isolating with asthma but DH is planning on going to work on Monday...)

Workerbeee · 21/03/2020 21:54

I have well managed asthma but I’ve caught a cold and Instantly my asthma is playing up - the weakness is there - stay home!

Springb0ks · 21/03/2020 21:57

Interesting @happysunnydays. I have asthma too so am self-isolating plus a young DC so we aren't leaving the house apart from a weekly (sensible!) trip to the supermarket. I understand the official advice to be if your husband is not a vulnerable person then work as usual for him, but then take precautions coming home, hand-washing, etc. Very scary as he could easily pick up the virus and pass onto you at home.

The advice from asthma uk is to work from home, if you can, with asthma that is well controlled. GPs will be writing to patients with severe asthma this week with advice (defined as those on steroid tablets or needing time in hospital). They are updating their advice daily and they have a helpline. As an asthmatic myself I check their advice daily.

My dp has asthma and is not self isolating. About 70% of my team at work have asthma and are still in the office.
Many of them have been told only to self isolate if they have chronic asthma.
