Does anyone know of legitimate above board ways of getting nice freebies and samples of things like smellies etc? Any good bargains around anywhere or anything?

I'll share one: Molton Brown are doing up to 3 free Ultra Pure Milk 50g soaps, you pay £3.95 p&p and you can also choose a free 1.5ml perfume sample on check out. Enjoy!

Honestly?

Why would anyone be ordering non essential items by post at this moment in time? Hey you thought through how many people you are requiring to work so you can get a cheap soap?

Pricklypear12 · 21/03/2020 14:33

@tinybluerose Have you considered the fact that keeping businesses going is a good way to prevent employees having their hours cut down unpaid due to business being slow? Providing it is safe for them to actually work then people want to be kept at work in order to earn.

Intentionally not buying because you think this will allow people to not work is not how it works unfortunately. All that will happen is there will be less business and therefore less profit and the superiors will simply cut their employees hours/pay. So you're actually doing a disservice to many.

Do you know any delivery drivers or factory workers or warehouse pickers? I do and believe me they would much rather be at home with their families.

The 80% wage from the government, reduced/no business rates and loans is what will keep the economy going. Not someone trying to buy cheap soap online.

Buying bargain soap is not going to save the economy but delivering it to you might put the life of the delivery driver or royal mail worker at risk.

But hey your hands will smell nice.

Thanks for the heads up, @PricklyPear. I've just ordered three, I'm almost out of soap and self isolating so this is a great.

Thank you!

@tinybluerose my husband is a manager at Royal Mail and all of the staff are incredibly proud to be able to help contribute to keeping the country going. For many people, essential medical supplies, medication itself, household goods not available in the supermarkets etc. are delivered through the mail. RM has had a huge upsurge in deliveries because of Council Tax letters and also Mother’s Day. They’re doing all they can to be as clean as possible whilst they do this, and they have distance measures at the door.

Many of the staff are glad they are helping and also glad they still have jobs. Not only is this helping their families but it’s also going to aid the economy.

So yes, buying online if you want to is more than fine. It might be the only way this country stays afloat.

Thanks OP, I'm still at work (teacher) so some soap is essential for me
