To think this is well and truly the death of the high street?

So many shops were going out of business before. Many more now have followed in the last week. Bigger companies are closing their stores temporarily and selling off stock online only (some with big discounts I might add).

I really think yesterday well and truly marked the end of high street. I don't see how it can possibly recover from this. Even those fortunate enough to still have jobs and incomes coming in won't be throwing money around on the non-essentials for a long time. And if and when things pick up again, I think everyone will be so used to online only, they won't see the point in going to the shops.

It's sad. But most importantly, where will all the workers go now?

The govt has just announced 80% support for paye workers to be given to employers.

So unless the business was bankrupt anyway there's no reason they should close.

I think the opposite re when we get back to normal. I for one will absolutely relish being able to go shopping again and try on clothes and look at things I want to buy in the flesh as it were.

I actually disagree. The small local shops are doing roaring take away and online trade. My husband went to get bread from a small local bakery and they’d made 600 loves overnight. My friends own a bar and are now offering takeaway in food and booze, they were overwhelmed last night and expect tonight to be the same. I think this will actually change a lot of our habits and routines for the better.
