To ask people I know not to talk to me about this infernal virus?

Know this is probably a tough one, but I honestly have the worst anxiety over this. I'm pregnant, currently travelling in Barbados and due to fly back to London in a week. My in laws, parents and friends are all in a panic both for hubs and me and also caught up in anxiety themselves I think.

I find whenever I wake up I feel sick over the fast changing nature of this. Its not even the virus, its the quick, and extreme (and probably necessary) measures changes, not to mention the fast news cycles.

Is it unreasonable to ask friends and relatives not to talk to me about it?

Honestly - everyone feels like this now. Is there any chance you can stay where you are?

Cohle · 20/03/2020 22:03

Surely your friends and relatives are very worried that you're abroad at a time like this?

I think refusing to talk to them about whether it's sensible to return to the UK is sticking your head in the sand. Look at the people stuck in Peru because of the cost of flights.

You do know theres a coronavirus topic?

selfisolatingsince2007 · 20/03/2020 22:09

Not trying to stick my head in the sand at all, BA have assured us our flights are still going ahead as planned and if we wanted to come home early we'd have to pay crazy expensive one way fares.

Its more that whenever my mother in law hears something - that might not even be true, she calls to tell us. I don't know if its unreasonable to ask her not to or not. Probably is. Either way its hard to avoid. Just wanted some opinions 🙂

How pregnant are you? BA can't guarantee you anything, countries are shutting their boarders and there is nothing they can do to prevent that if it happens. I've traveled a bit in the last few months and I have already had tickets cancelled because of hk introducing quarentine laws and recently a company in Europe stopped flying as well. I'm still trying to get money back.

selfisolatingsince2007 · 20/03/2020 22:22

@cockcrowfarm 31 weeks - can fly any time until 36 weeks with BA

The concern isn't you being too pregnant to fly - it's countries shutting their borders or airlines cancelling flights, trapping you overseas. Countries are shutting hotels as well. At your stage of pregnancy I'd be hugely worried.Confused I know that's not what you wanted to hear OP but I don't think it's surprising that your family are hugely worried. The FCO have already advised against all but essential travel...
