Electrician has to turn my electric off for 2 hours.
Will my food still be ok?
I have a fridge full of things
I can't afford to buy it all again
Will it be ok?

Yes, just try not to open the door.

cees · 20/03/2020 18:09

It will be fine

Bringmewineandcake · 20/03/2020 18:10

Yes so long as you don't open the door. The temperature wont really have time to drop in 2 hours with the door kept shut.

Cheeserton · 20/03/2020 18:11

Is this serious? Two hours is nothing if you keep it closed.

Jozen · 20/03/2020 18:12

It'll be fine. Mine was off for about 6 hours during summer. I shoved a few ice bricks in there in case but I didn't really need to. Just don't open and close it constantly.

bridgetreilly · 20/03/2020 18:12

Yes, it will be completely fine. Most of it would still be fine 24 hours later too.

Hulahoopqueen · 20/03/2020 18:12

Mine broke on the 23rd December (😱) and we didn’t notice until about the 26th. None of us were poisoned or even slightly unwell. Keep the door closed, and keep calm :)

BBBear · 20/03/2020 18:12

Of course it will - my shopping usually sits on the floor in bags for more than two hours before I put it away!

ooooere · 20/03/2020 18:13

Phew thanks everyone
I'm a massive worrier
It's been closed since 2pm so should be nice and cold again now.
I've had food poisoning and ever since then I'm super paranoid.

it will be fine. It sometimes takes me more than 2 hours to out the milk away after breakfast.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 20/03/2020 18:25

It will be fine.

thecatneuterer · 20/03/2020 18:27

Two hours! Even if you left it all on the kitchen counter for two hours it would be fine.

Notthetoothfairy · 20/03/2020 19:35

I also think it will be absolutely fine. If in doubt, eat the higher risk foods (e.g. chicken and pork) first and/or freeze some of it.

ShinyMe · 20/03/2020 19:44

If it helps, think about rural people. They go shopping - spend say 40 minutes walking round the supermarket putting stuff in their trolley. Eveything at room temperature. 10-15 minutes through the till. Put it in the car. Drive home, 45 minutes say. Then unload. Things are easily out of refrigeration for 2 hours, often more. And they're absolutely fine.

fluffiphlox · 20/03/2020 19:47

It’s fine. We didn’t even get a fridge until 1973.
