A step too far?

The shops are ridiculous around here, struggling to get anything remotely edible.

The kids want chocolate spread sandwiches most mornings for breakfast but they never eat the crusts!

AIBU to collect up the uneaten chocolatey crusts, add a slice or two of fresh bread and repurpose into bread and butter pudding or is that a step too far?

The heat of the oven will kill any mouth germs right..?

Why can't you just cut the crusts off first?

SapphireSalute · 20/03/2020 15:44

ugh

just stop the sandwiches on the understanding its because they are wasting food

but seriously? chocolate spread sandwiches most mornings? setting them up to fail ...

Lynda07 · 20/03/2020 15:46

Now is the time to introduce them to something else to eat, tell them there's no choice! I'm sure you have a few things in the cupboard - beans, tomatoes, etc. They are nice on toast and a lot more nutritious than chocolate spread!

Yes that is a much more sensible solution!

I literally just sat here now thinking about the wastage but didn’t think of that.

The coronavirus stress is clearly melting my brain Blush 😂

It’s one little sandwich most mornings.
Their lunches and dinners are very healthy.

Come on, you know they shouldn't be having that for brekkie most days! Once a week treat at most.

Ginkypig · 20/03/2020 16:01

It's no different to having two slices of toast with jam or other sweet spread.

It's not really that different to some cereals or pastries etc

Op cut of the crusts first ya silly moo Grin then make a lovely crusty pudding that they won't like and can eat it all!

NaviSprite · 20/03/2020 16:40

Yep crusts off first and I took an embarrassing length of time to realise I should do that for my twin toddlers Smile

Also said twins have pain au chocolat most mornings as a part of breakfast so I guess I’m setting them up to fail too Grin

I’m going to do it tomorrow.
Cut the crusts off first then make a lovely bread and butter pudding instead of throwing them in the bin.
I have some condensed milk in the cupboard and sultanas, it’s going to be good 😋

I'm slightly concerned at how you never considered cutting the crusts off first....

That's true I suppose. Good idea to have some variety though - we can still buy eggs at the moment. Do the children like eggs?

Yum, can I come?

I do have some eggs but 2 of them are for lion king and toy story cupcakes, those box mix ones with the edible rice paper pictures and the rest are going in my bread and butter pudding!

Don’t know when I’ll be able to get more actually, the shops are very bad here, lots of bare shelves.

My kids aren’t really too fond of them anyway though
